Nice place and very friendly staff
Hotel staff are very friendly. We had to depart at 6ish for our flight and the staff packed some sandwiches, water and fruits for us the night before! The lake view is stunning and the walk up and down to town centre is chill and nice as well.

Como Getaway
In the States it would called a boutique hotel. Beautiful grounds, away from the crowds in town this gem of a place has a resort feel. Warm and friendly staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights here. A steep walk down to the lake, maybe 10-15 minutes.

Lovely hotel in a quite location.
Our initial view when arriving at the hotel was a very friendly and efficient welcome and the food was superb. At the end of the holiday this was still our view. my only reservation would be if guests have a small appetite, the food is great and portions are substantial. A great example of a well run family hotel and restaurant.

Great family run hotel
We stayed for four nights, our first visit to Como, and overal it was a fantastic time, my ratings of the hotel are Excellent: staff at all times; car parking; views; cleanliness Very good: breakfast ( have to pay extra for eggs); pool ( not heated); grounds Good: room (walls in the separate block are thin so sound from next door annoying); Lastly 'location' is both excellent and poor! There are beautiful views everywhere, however, it is quite a walk down to the lakefront and harder on the way up, about 20-25mins.

Wonderful, wonderful stay!
A great experience, probably our best stay in Europe thanks to our great host (am ashamed I don't remember his name). The hotel is set upon a hill with great views overlooking the town and lake. Nice salt water pool was a real treat as was pool-side bar service. We were treated to a special evening meal (delicious) with entertainment one night and the host and his wife went out of their way to make sure everyone was contented. Superb. Perhaps the rooms are a bit dated, however super clean.

Excellent hotel
A really lovely relaxing stay at Hotel Royal, which has a great feel to it created with loving care by the Columbo family and their super staff. Nothing was too much trouble and Mario the owner even drove us to the ferry two days during our stay as we did not have transport to get around. The highlight of our stay were the wonderful evening meals created by Emilio, Mario's son, who is a marvellous chef producing delicious home made pasta dishes with delicious sauces. Staff were first rate in serving us at dinner.

Extremely friendly and helpful multilingual staff. Very good in-house restaurant. Very nice quiet location with great views about 15 minutes walk out of town (with plenty of parking if driving).

Spotlessly clean 3 star hotel with friendly staff
We stayed two nights on our way to a family wedding and were sorry we hadn't booked to stay longer. Hotel Royal is well situated with beautiful views over Lake Como. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There is an excellent restaurant which was sold out both nights we were there. We hope to return.

Excellent Hotel. Lovely staff led by Mr Colombo. We did not have half board but most people did and thoroughly enjoyed it . We ate in the Hotel most nights which we do not normally do but the Al la Carte menu and food was excellent

The hotel is embracing -small, attentive, with an excellent restaurant. This is important since you are up in the hills, far from any other facility. It is most comfortable, lovely view, and relaxing.

Very nice hotel
Very nice hotel, family operated; they are very friendly and give great attention to the clientele. The rooms are small. Get a larger one if you can afford it. The garden and pool are beautiful and with great view of the lake. The restaurant is very good and we had dinner there several evenings.

Visit Mennagio and lake Como
A short break in lake Como. We loved this hotel, delightful helpful staff, wonderful location 2 km from the centre of Menagio in the hills of Lovano. The walk to the centre with ferries cafes restaurants etc was only 25 minutes downhill and a 10 € taxi ride uphill to the hotel. Lovely views over Mennagio to the lake and the hills behind. A small family run hotel with an excellent restaurant, & an interesting varied & comprehensive wine list. The pool was uncrowded as only a small number of rooms in the hotel so plenty of space, pool service too. We stayed across the road in the annex with a small terrace, sadly no refrigerator so had to cross the road to the main hotel for cold drinks etc. would love to return or to have stayed longer, great value too. Easy access to Villa Carlotta, Bellagio, Varenna, Lucgano, & Como etc.

Super hotel, very welcoming staff.
This is very nice hotel. The hotel staff all go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Our room was in the annex, on the first floor and had a view of the lake from the very nice balcony.The swimming pool was great, and the use of pool towels was free. There was free parking, and we sometimes put our car in the underground carpark under the annex, which kept it cool.The restaurant was very good in the evenings, and the breakfast was good too, although there were no eggs. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here, perhaps to make it perfect it would be nice to have bottled water available in the room.

Quiet Friendly Hotel
Sitting on the hill just above Menaggio this was a good find. The hotel is spilt by a quiet road and all rooms have parking (some in the underground garage - lovely and cool in the summer heat). The staff are incredibly friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a superb dinner there and pre-dinner drinks on the patio overlooking the lake was a delight. It takes 15 mins of pleasant walking to reach the town centre

This is a Gem!
This place was a huge positive surprise. There was no single disappointment from arrival to departure. The hotel staff was one of the nicest and most caring we've ever experienced. The owners are unique and treat their guests like private guests. This is just a feel-good place and you can relax immediately. We've been their for one night only but we will be definitely back for a longer stay.

Old-fashioned but charming family run hotel
This is a charming old-fashioned small hotel in a fabulous position overlooking Lake Como with a very nicely kept swimming pool and lovely grounds. It is family owned and the restaurant is fantastic with excellent food and service. The staff are all extremely friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be returning to it.

Great place great people!
Loved our stay here, small place with great charm. The owner and staff were excellent, so friendly and really made the stay one of a kind! Complete Italian charm, food at the restaurant was better than anything we found in Menaggio or Como. The walk to town is a not for everyone would be the only possible downside but is part of saving a ton of money over the lakeside hotels. Wouldn't trade it for them anyway!

Relaxing location from which to explore Lake Como
The owners and staff at Hotel Royal are most hospitable and helpful. This applies not only to Mario, but also to all the staff - reception, dining room, people who cleaned our room. The hotel itself is very comfortable and we enjoyed the terrace from our ground floor room with views over the garden and in the distance over the lake. A great place to enjoy relaxing and the occasional spritzer! As the hotel is small, it has an intimacy about it. Breakfasts were good and we chose to eat in the three nights we were there as the meals were very good and very reasonably priced. As the hotel is located up the hill from the town, it is either a 20+ minutes steep walk back (or drive), although Mario was obliging too in taking us to the wharf to catch the ferry. It does mean that dining is the easiest option! Lucky that it is also a good option.

A little out of town, this hotel offers very good rooms however the stars are the owners. Very hospitable wanting to ensure your stay is perfect. The restaurant is of a high standard. The views were brilliant from our room, an ideal setting.

Treat of a hotel up in the hills of Menaggio!
Great stay for a wedding - just wish my boyfriend could have joined me!! Fantastic views and delicious food at the hotel. The pool is truly a great place to unwind and have a nice glass of wine whilst enjoying the surroundings. The owners as well as the staff were lovely. Really nice like minded guests as well. A 10€ taxi ride to and from Menaggio town center. The hotel is simple but comfortable and everything you need if you are out exploring and the lake but want a great dinner and breakfast at your hotel.

5 star hotel for a 3 star,price
Impeccable white marble floors, Oriental carpets, velvet upholstery, exotic flowers, cozy, immaculately clean rooms, delicious food, superior view of the lake, happy and helpful staff is what you will find at Hotel Royal. The breakfast was a generous smorgasbord of oh so fresh items. It's a bit of a hike from the boat terminal in Menaggio, but it means you can eat more pasta and bread. If you just can't hike back up the hill after sightseeing, the taxi is only 10 euros from Piazza Garibaldi. HIGHLY recommend it!

Superb Hotel and Restaurant
Outstanding hotel for this location. Superb restaurant with authentic northern Italian food and attentive service. Room includes sumptuous breakfast. Excellent management and cordial staff. Worth a trip just to stay at this property. Location - Menagio is ideal for visit to Lake Como. A small but lively town, in the northern part of Lake Como, away from bustling and large city of Como. Menagio is also the center of cross-lake ferry services (passengers and cars) making it an ideal location to stay for visits to Belagio and Varenna, both interesting towns.

This small family hotel is located on the hillside above Menaggio. We had the lovely, if somewhat pricey, Royal Suite. This room is very spacious and has a large private balcony with views of the lake and mountains. The only niggle is insufficient lighting for us to read with our ageing eyes unless we were seated right underneath a table lamp. A fridge would also have been useful. The staff in the restaurant were all very friendly with personal service, and the set menu so good and reasonably priced that we ended up eating there every night even though we were not booked in for half board.

We stayed in the royal suite which was lovely. Wine in the restaurant was expensive but food was good. Think it's better for older people but it was relaxing and quiet.

Charming country retreat
This is a small hotel in a residential neighborhood on a hillside with fantastic views of Lake Como. We stayed in the small annex across the street from main building and it was a small room with a door onto a patio with table and 2 chairs. No a/c, but with the cool evening breezes flowing thru the open windows none was needed. Clean and comfortable, but pillows were low and very firm. Main reason I chose to stay here was the reviews of Chef Mario's restaurant in the lower level of the main building. Mario greeted us in person and by name when we arrived for dinner and was very friendly and helpful in selecting a wine to accompany our dinner choices. The tomato salad tasted like it was fresh picked from the garden, the perch was light and flavorful, and the Crème Brule was to die for. The best I have ever eaten. Breakfast was a light continental in the European style with good coffee. Pool near the main building was available for a refreshing dip after a day of sightseeing in the hot Italian sun.

Thiswas such a nice littlehotel a bit off the lake road and a bit hard to find buit once you are there it is so wonderful. Very clean and th efood is great views fromt he hill top of th elake very nice swimming pool in August was a nice treat as it was hot. Will stay there again for sure.

15 - 20 mins walk back from Menaggio, 10 mins walk down, Swimming pool was lovely and view over the lake was great. Room was small but cool despite excessive heat and no air conditiong, Food in Restaurant was excellent and owner was great, waiter preferred to serve other tables and caused minor irritation but owner resolved. Building works just commenced next door and started at breakfast time so check if these are ongoing if you plan relaxing by the pool!

What a fantastic stay for our first trip to Lake Como. Hotel was outstanding but Mario and his staff made it truly special. Mario has a passion for food and wine which he loves to share with his guests. We ended up eating in the hotel restaurant 3 nights out of 4 as it was just too good. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the only thing that made us mark the room down was that the beds were a bit hard. The location was superb with great views of the lake but it was a climb from the town, however it was also quieter and a shade cooler which was perfect for us.

Brilliant hotel - stay here!
This hotel is fantastic! We stayed here for 5 nights and really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of this hotel and its great location on a hillside above Menaggio. It's a bit of an uphill walk to get there from Menaggio, but worth it for the peaceful setting and lovely views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The staff were really friendly and extremely helpful without being intrusive. The food was fantastic, with a great choice of dishes at reasonable prices and really good wine list.
