Stody Lodge Gardens View south from veranda, across front lawn. Stody Lodge, as it stands today, was rebuilt by Lord Rothermere in the beginning of the 1930s; the original house had been damaged by a fire. The new house was not erected at the site of the old one; instead, a woodland was cleared to make room for the new Lodge and Gardens. The garden covers an area of 10 acres; its main feature is the collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, which is described as being one of the largest and most dramatic in East Anglia. Japanese Water Gardens were also created; these are located in the southwestern corner of Lodge Plantation, on the other side of the Holt Road. The water gardens are believed to have been planted with more than 2000 Azalea mollis. The gardens are open to the public on only six days per year, usually in May when the rhododendrons are at their best.

Lovely site, with new shepherds huts and yurts being adds to the site.. work is ongoing but done respectfully. Very peaceful with no WiFi, no phone signal or TV.. which was a plus, sat into the night by the fire pit talking playing cards etc.

Rural crossroads. None of these country lanes has a name - the road seen straight ahead links with Hall Street further to the east. The bridge seen in mid-distance takes the road over the River Bure which here is nothing more than a small stream > 1278078. The stream here crosses the lane via a culvert which runs underneath it, only to cross underneath another lane at the same junction about 20 metres further to the west > 1278144. The River Bure rises near Melton Constable, 18 kilometres miles upstream of Aylsham, which was the original head of navigation. It flows into the North Sea by Breydon Water near Gorleston, further to the southeast.
