  • The vast majority of people turn up at Dove Lake, do the loop around it and go home satisfied. My hand is up, that's exactly what I did first time. However, that represents about 10-15% of what's on offer and the shots of the iconic boatshed lead people to thinking it's unique. However, if you to the Crater Lake walk, you'll not only come across other lakes (Lilla, Crater and Wombat Pool) and tarns, but also another boatshed on Crater Lake, as shown here. It's a great walk, takes about 3 hours and is scenic all the way.

This was a beautiful apartment. Very spacious and modern. Clean and comforable and with everything you could ask for to enjoy your stay. Steve & Jo were wonderful hosts. Would definitely recommend to stay here.

Great place to stay when visiting Mt Field

This was a great stay between Strahan and Hobart and close to the Mt Field National Park, where we did Russell and Horseshoe falls. The accomodation was clean and very comfortable. It was great to look over the fields where the alpacas lived to the mountains. The accommodation had everything we needed to be comfortable and we were instructed on what was available food wise before we came, as there are not many options once you get to Maydena. Highly recommend this place to stay.

Accommodation was very comfortable and amenities were very good. Lovely views and some alpacas in the nearby paddocks. Our host Jo was wonderful. Not only very welcoming but went to the trouble of texting us after we checked out the following day about weather conditions and power outages, etc. in the area we were travelling to. Her advice was very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Peaceful oasis and good base for exploring

We had a wonderful time at our cabin, overlooking pastures with alpacas and not so distant mountains. The hosts are very helpful and pleasant. This was our best stay out of 6 places in Tasmania.

Lovely hosts - Jo and Steve. We stayed in the apartment, which was so clean and homely. Right at the foot of Mt Field. Lovely views. Nice pub in the same street which had lovely food. The host, Jenny, was very obliging. The caves are worth a visit. Very remote, though. The drive is down a narrow, winding road.
