I highly recommend a stay at this historic property in Marvão. It has an old world charm and the amenities are excellent. The rooms are clean and comfortable, brightly lit, the breakfast superb and the view from the dining room is amazing. The staff were friendly and most helpful.
Staff was warm and welcoming and very helpful. We had an issue with our room the first night and they quickly made it possible to shift rooms. Truly delightful staff who work hard to make guest feel welcome.
What an exceptional spot! Marvao is incredible. The pousada is in a perfect location, and overlooking the plains below, it has a fabulous view. Our room, although small, was quite commodious and had historic traditional Portuguese furniture. Our dinner and breakfast were most enjoyable, although the dinner was not “gourmet”. Would we stay there again? Absolutely.
Stunning location and staff couldn't have been more helpful.
Had some problems finding it as signs to Pousada were poor, and no directions available.
Parking is limited at hotel, although there is sufficient within walking distance. Steep slopes and steps to hotel itself, with no vehicle access, so you will need to carry your luggage some distance, although staff were happy to help. Once in the hotel however, the rooms, restaurant and support were excellent.
Well worth a visit for the view alone.
The location of Pousada de Marvão is hard to beat. You can drive your rental car to a small parking lot just down the street from the Pousada. The staff were lovely—friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very generous. The restaurant has windows all along the back wall, giving a view of the valley below and into Spain! The beds were firm. The shower water got quite hot, as we like it. The pousada has lovely sitting areas, near a fire place and near a large window, but we didn’t have time to enjoy them. We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner and it was excellent.
Great location in the heart of the town with super friendly & helpful staff. Margarida was very welcoming and gave us great insight about sightseeing around the town.
Only con is the property needs renovation; furnishings & decor is dated, but the town is small & 1500 years old.
Staff were very professional and friendly. Hotel was very central in the beautiful medieval walled town. The restaurant and common areas had spectacular views. Parking and driving in the town were a bit tricky.
Hotel is situated in a small town hugging the top of a mountain with spectacular views. Small room but hotel has several public areas with views. We couldn’t get into hotel restaurant but the management directed us to nearby alternatives
Beware driving into the village through a narrow passage in the town walls and very narrow “roads”The hotel is not well marked so I walked around the village to find it

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Gorgeous property, clean and spacious room, easy walk to the castle with panoramic views, impeccable service. The only issue is the nerve-wracking drive to the hotel on extremely narrow, cobblestone streets and lack of parking. We lucked into one of 2 spaces in front but the other alternative would have been to drop off and park way down the mountain. There should be advance warning and maybe even a better solution! Reception clerk very helpful with suitcases and accommodating!
positif : belle terrasse, belle vue, au centre du village
négatif: restaurant un peu cher et air climatisé pas très efficace

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
We booked this hotel through Expedia during a very hot weekend because the listing displayed photographs of a swimming pool among the property’s amenities and facilities. Upon arrival, before checking in, we discovered that the hotel does not actually have a swimming pool on site. The pool shown in the listing is a municipal pool located elsewhere.
As the presence of a pool was a significant factor in our booking decision, we raised the issue immediately and requested a refund. We never checked in, never occupied the room, and did not use any hotel services or facilities. The refund request was denied.
The manager explained that the hotel description does not explicitly state that there is a pool, but in our view the way the pool photographs were presented on the Expedia listing created a reasonable expectation that the hotel itself had one.
What was most disappointing was that after we provided evidence and attempted to continue the discussion, communication simply stopped. We were charged despite not staying there and sought accommodations elsewhere.
