Malta Lake Tours

Malta Lake featuring outdoor art and a garden
Mingle with Poznań locals as they enjoy entertainment and leisure at one of the city’s most popular recreation areas.

Malta Lake is artificially formed and surrounded by family-friendly attractions and activities. In summer, play miniature golf, sunbathe or cycle around the lake’s scenic perimeter. In winter, go skating on the indoor rink or race down the toboggan run. The area around the lake also features one of the largest zoos in Poland, as well as an aqua park and pool complex.

Established in the 1950s, Malta Lake was created by damming the Cybina River. The perimeter of the lake stretches for 3.5 miles (5.6 kilometers), making it a popular trail for joggers and cyclists. Stroll around the lake and find a spot to enjoy a picnic.

Head to the south bank of the lake to see its artificial ski slope. Rent equipment and ski at any time of year. At the bottom of the slopes, check out the driving range and 18-hole mini-golf course.

Don’t miss the Poznań New Zoo or Nowe Zoo, which is located just east of Malta Lake. Spanning 287 acres (116 hectares) and home to more than 2,000 animals, it’s one of the largest zoos in Poland. The zoo is comprised of pine and mixed forests, which serve as a natural habitat for 260 different species. Explore the zoo on foot or take advantage of the year-round mini-railway that runs through the site. On the grounds, see Fort 3, built by the Prussian Army in the late 1800s.

Stop at the Termy Maltańskie on the north shore of the lake, which consists of a spa complex, water park and sport pools. Enjoy therapeutic baths filled with water sourced from underground thermal springs, swim in the wave pool and slip down colorful water slides.

Visit the lake in June, when its banks host the open-air performances of the Malta International Theatre Festival. The lake also hosts regular regattas, kayaking competitions and rowing events at various times during the year.

To reach Malta Lake, take the tram or bus just over 1 mile (2 kilometers) out of the city center. Opening hours and admission fees vary for the recreation area’s different attractions.
