I really loved my stay here! It was one of the highlights of my trip as the hostel is really beautiful, lovely staff and great pool area with a view of the mountains! The lady at reception recommended I take the breakfast buffet as well and it was amazing! Every food you could ever dream of in a beautiful setting! Definitely a 10/10, would highly recommend!

This property was fantastic for the price. It was super clean and the staff was fantastic. Super close to train station for daily excursions. My daughter was in the hostel next door with her study abroad program. This could not have been better. Such a beautiful place and within walking distance to town. Loved it!!

This place was perfect for ours. Free parking. Cute (but small room). Close to funicular for getting to water. Could easily walk too. And the pool (with pool bar) was a treat after a day of walking around in the heat. Very happy. Not the cheapest though.

Hotel with Character.
Hotel with character, positioned in beautiful fern gardens. Good facilities. Good buffet breakfast in adjacent sister hotel. Next to railway station. Short walk to lake. Steep hill but okay if you are healthy.

Private room had a gorgeous view and the place was in a great location. Train station is loud, but that’s on the map and headphones exist so if that bothers you then stay home. Top value in Lugano for dollars spent, hands down.

Great place to stay in Lugano
Great location and lovely pool. All clean a spotless and very central. Complimentary travel tickets were great too Had a very communal feel

Good location - a few minutes walk from the train station. The room was nice - basic but functional. There was quite a lot of noise from neighbouring rooms and the area around the hotel was a bit of a bomb site as they were having building work done. This is obviously temporary though.

Loved the overall property, very close to the train station. Our room had a balcony overlooking Lugano, view was beautiful. Staff very friendly and check in was easy and quick.

Deceptive service / unable to sleep / no hot water
I wrote a detailed complaint about the deceptive service and unsatisfactory condition of our room, and have received no reply. Until there is substantial improvement avoid Hotel Montarina, Lugarno.

Good location near Lugano station.
Clean and comfortable rooms. We had a room with private bathroom accessed in a house separate from the main building only a short walk away. A small kitchen is available and closes at 9pm. There is also a spacious dining room with microwave and fridges although we had a small fridge in our room as well. The location is a short walk from the station with quicker access from platform 4. This was ideal for catching the Bernina coach and we had very accurate directions from the recption desk on how to locate the coach stop.

Nice Property next to Train Station
Overall, we liked the place and would stay again. It was very clean and the staff was helpful. Wifi worked great and we had a nice view. This property is located directly behind the Lugano train station (just walk to the end of Platform 4, through the parking lot, and turn right to walk up 1/2 block up the hill). Our only significant complaint relates to the temperature inside our room. the room was uncomfortably warm when we checked in. We turned on the AC on max and left for a few hours. Upon returning, the room was downright hot. We ended up turning the system off and leaving the window open overnight to stay cool. Unfortunately, we then had to listen to trains and other outside noises all night. That, plus the lack of shades/curtains/blinds made sleeping somewhat difficult. We learned upon check out that the AC had been turned off for the season.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was very spacious, and ceiling high, which helped compensate for no a/c or fan. Very close to train station, but not too noisy after midnight. Beautiful grounds! Go for the a/c if you can.

Convenient for the Train Station
Booking was for the Hostel Montarina, but room was at Continental Park Hotel (adjacent on same site) - short walk from station & funicular to downtown Lugano - small room, but comfortable with modern bathroom - some railway noise, but deadened by closing shutters - very good buffet breakfast ( for CHF15 per person extra) - foreign language channels on TV, including English - good parking on site

The hotel, situated in a grove of palm and bamboo trees, was unexpectedly nice-- tall ceiling room with painted French style ceiling and wall decoration, and a nice fireplace for additional historical effect. Wood floor and sink in room, but toilet and shower outside were inconvenient. You had to walk through s communal dining room with refrigerators to get there or walk upstairs. Nice balcony with decent view though for dining-- kitchen privileges too a plus for budget travelers. Pool was really nice with lawn and chairs. Would definitely stay again.

no enforcement of noise control
there was no enforcement of noise after 12am so it was very noisy when some guest talk loudly just outside the bunk bed till 2am at night for few night, was very difficult to sleep, staff should have a house rule informing guest not to made loud noise after 12am, but it have a big kitchen good for microwave food , cook some hot water. Very near to train station & sight seeing area, it also have a swimming pool which was a plus point. if reception can give a smile to be less serious will be better. Found some mosquito in the bunk bed, so it is better to bring mosquito repeller patch if you want to sleep without been bitten.

Worst hostel experience
3 dorms with 30 people and only 2 toilets and 2 showers. Unfriendly and extremely rude staff, and overall the entire place has a weird smell. I have lived in hostels all over the world, and this is by far the worst.

Overall outstanding
The hotel/hostel has excellent facilities and excellent service. Some of the rooms that are adjacent to common spaces are effected by the noise. All facilities and public spaces were kept im immaculate condition. The pool was great. The location is close to the train station and a short walk to the center of Lugano. Coming back to the hotel from the city center requires an uphill walk. Overall it's outstanding

A gem of a spot!
Lovely option to the sister property Continental...If you like the charm of a historic property and don't mind the necessary room being down the hall this is for you! There is no AC (again, the historic value)but, the windows open wide and the surroundings are gorgeous.
