I recently stayed at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and, while the location is undeniably convenient and the resort has potential, the overall experience left much to be desired.
Rooms:
The rooms are very basic and could use a serious refresh. While functional, they lack the warmth or charm you'd expect from a resort in this price range. Most concerning was the noticeable presence of mildew and mold in the shower area—something that should be addressed for both hygiene and guest comfort.
Service:
Unfortunately, the staff did not seem particularly engaged or enthusiastic. While no one was outright rude, the overall attitude felt indifferent. There was a lack of the welcoming energy and proactive hospitality that can really elevate a resort experience. Requests felt like a chore rather than an opportunity to enhance a guest’s stay.
Dining:
Food was a mixed experience. The standout options were definitely the Italian restaurant and the pizza station, which both served consistently good meals. Other dining venues, however, were hit or miss in terms of both variety, taste, and quality.
I would not go back for the money we had paid. Hopefully, the resort improves and starts to offer more of a higher class experience.
