"Half an hour a at from Puerto Maldonado by boat , the place is lovely, with river view and a feel of the jungle without venturing too far. We felt like we got a good insight into the area, with included excursions on the river and into the jungle. Our guide Yuri, who was with us throughout, was very knowledgeable and good. The food was great and they had several veg options . Well stocked bar too . The rooms are spacious and comfortable. We had a great stay."

While there were two USB ports, they didn’t work—not just in our room but in others as well. We had to rely on the dining room or lobby to charge our devices, which was inconvenient. There was also no hot water in the rooms at all, which can be tough after long, active days in the rainforest. The Lake Sandoval tour itself was beautiful and well worth doing, but the meal provided during the tour was quite disappointing. For a $70 experience, we expected more than two very basic sandwiches—one with dry pulled chicken, the other with a small piece of cheese on dry bread—especially after seeing other groups enjoy more complete meals.
