"Good location and memorable hotel, but check food arrangements We stayed at Hotel Palace Royal as a family of six on our first stop in Québec City. The location is excellent — close to Porte Saint-Jean, the old city walls, Rue Saint-Jean and an easy walk into Old Québec, Château Frontenac and Terrasse Dufferin. The hotel has a striking internal atrium, and our sixth-floor room had an internal balcony overlooking the pool/restaurant area. The pool was a definite plus for the children after travelling. The main downside was communication around food. Breakfast was not included with our booking, but this was not made especially clear when entering the restaurant; we were asked for a room number and only realised afterwards that it was charged to the room. For a family of six, the buffet was expensive. Room service was also unavailable in the afternoon the day after we arrived, as the kitchens were closed, which was frustrating while still jet-lagged. It would have helped if food options, breakfast arrangements and nearby supermarket alternatives had been explained at check-in. Overall, a good and very convenient base for exploring Québec City, with a distinctive setting and useful family facilities, but food-service information could be clearer."
