Hitachi Central Research Laboratory was established in 1942 by Namihei Odaira, founder of Hitachi. He gave specific instructions to avoid cutting the trees when building on the 207,000 sqm property. They currently open the gardens to the public twice a year (Apr/Nov).

"The first thing you should know is that this is not a hotel. It's an apartment with two flats, one on the second floor and one on the third floor, above a storefront about half way between the Ueno and Asakusa stations.
