Really Beautiful historical mansion. Staff was great. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and touring the house & grounds. Nice continental breakfast. We will definitely go back.
The Henderson Castle was an amazing, enchanting place. Will definitely go back. Loved the high tea, massage, food and especially the historical and european atmoshere. Staff was amazing. An overall wonderful experience.
It was a comftable enjoyable stay. Just wish we had a fridge and microwave in the cottage. The hot tub was great on a cold night and the view was good as well.
It's a completely gorgeous spot and the staff are friendly and helpful. The building and grounds are amazing.
As a hotel option, it's not ideal in terms of efficiency and modernity, so don't go there looking for that. This is for someone who appreciates an old mansion, a gothic rooftop, an old school fancy bar.
The bed in my room needed a new mattress and the walls more soundproofing, though I know that one is hard to do within an old fancy building. The bathroom fixtures should also be updated, and better quality toiletries offered.
Super nice place to stay. Place was a little understaffed. It felt like one person had to oversee 3 separate areas, so I was constantly waiting for support.
Definitely would be back if I was in the area.
Who doesn't love a "haunted castle"? Very unique. Each room is different from the next. We stayed in the Miracle room. The entire bathroom was a shower! Hoping to come back some day and try out another room.!
Staff was friendly but the room was dirty, the tub I had to clean before I used it. The bed was broken. The dinner the mushrooms were delicious but the duck was rare had to send it back.
Great stay! However, be careful when booking on Expedia as it advertises and books you at Henderson Castle but may really book you in the Upjohn House (its not even on Henderson Castle property). As such, you may get to Henderson Castle and be told you have no reservation there. That's what happened to me. There were openings in the castle so the staff kindly switched me to a room there.
This was an awesome, and unique place. Beautiful woodwork, amazing windows and features. But it is 130 years old and things are definitely unique. We loved it. Never quite figured out the shower (n the Miracle room) but that’s alright. The staff was great. Matt, the bartender/waiter, was the highlight. Funny, yet professional. Talented.
We would like to return. What an experience. We were there for a show downtown. Next time we will stay for dinner.
When I arrived at property no room was available as there was no record of my reservation despite having an itinerary and confirmation from Expedia. Staff was mostly unhelpful and provided no good alternatives or any explanation beyond not providing me with a room.
The accommodations were very poor. Bath fixtures did not work, much of the construction seemed not to code (very concerning). Heating was inconsistent. Rooms did not look at all like the photos. Had we not arrived late (and prepaid) we would have just left.
This is a beautiful old restored “castle” in the middle of Kalamazoo. The history, architectural details and antique furnishings make it an interesting place to stay. The quality of desserts we got from their restaurant was also very good. Unfortunately, when I checked in I was told they no longer participated with Expedia, so I would have to pay again for my room. I was assured that Expedia would refund my previous payment. After my stay I tried multiple times to get my refund from Expedia. I finally spoke to a manager who told me the hotel was at fault, and warned that I should call Expedia immediately if this ever happened in the future. I did get a generous refund from Expedia, but because of all the trouble, I’m unlikely to stay here again.
Our stay was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival we were informed that we were given a room at an additional property that isn't even on the castle grounds. This is not the room I choose at the time of booking. The other property had missing video cameras, cigarette smoke smell throughout the property and was just lacking some basic amenities you would expect for the price paid. Also, it was a very unusual room with the tub and toilet in the bedroom which I would never have chosen since I was staying with my teenager daughter. The person who checked us in was apologetic for the "mix up". There was no breakfast at the auxiliary property so we had to drive back to the castle for that. It was a very basic meal included and then expensive add ons. I had such high expectations for a bed and breakfast stay. I highly recommend not booking this place online or at least calling to confirm where you will get to stay before you show up.
