Absolutely beautiful property and the most gracious host. She made us a custom breakfast and easily accommodated us when we showed up hours earlier than our planned check in time. She’s a delight to visit with. You feel like family. This will definitely be our place to stay when we are in the area!

The only thing that was annoying was the wedding reception going on. When you’ve traveled a distance and just want to rest, loud music doesn’t help. Otherwise a beautiful place and tree farm. The hostess was really nice

Property is peaceful and so beautiful! The B&B is lovingly and painstakingly restored to accommodate modern conveniences without losing the original rustic charm of the building.

Beautifully decorated inn reflecting what a home might look like two hundred plus years ago. Charlotte was very hospitable and the breakfast she cooked was delicious!

Heavitree was an amazing find. Charlotte was a most gracious host, allowing us to check in early and giving us a personal tour of of this reconstruction of an historic tavern home. It was almost like staying in a museum but still warm and very very comfortable. I book old B&B's cautiously not wanting to stay in a musty old building which this one certainly is not! Because it was relocated and reconstructed it has a modern foundation and heating and cooling systems. As an Architect these are things that I always notice The property exudes beautiful and scenic old New England and the gourmet breakfast is excellent. I would recommend Heavitree to anyone.

Wonderful 18th Century B&B
An excellent stay, this unique Heavitree of Griswold B&B was featured in the December 2008 issue of Early American Life magazine. An original 18th century structure set on a 140+ acre Christmas tree farm, that once served as a tavern, home, and now a B&B. Walk through the door and you are teleported back in time, as the rooms, parlor, dining room, keeping room, great room, etc., are all from the 18th century period. Outside the B&B, the grounds include vast fields, gardens, beautiful views, and a comfortable outdoor patio. Each morning, the full breakfast was enormous and delicious. The owner, whose family has lived on this property since the 1600’s was amazing and so very nice to talk to. The property manager was also incredible and very knowledgeable of the area. If you love Old Sturbridge Village, CT, and wonder what it would be like to stay in an 18th century home of that period, then this is the B&B for you!

Beautiful location, excellent and attentive service, and very comfortable and clean rooms! Really loved the outdoor patio as well. Breakfast of eggs Benedict and French toast was delicious.

It took us two whole days to process this.
We only stayed one night— my mother, child and I. Antonio, the manager who spoke with us was very pleasant and helpful in finding an extra room for my son when his travel plans changed and he joined us last minute on this trip. But the lady who owns the place— Charlotte— left us feeling awful. We were checking in late after helping a friend at Holyoke move out, and hadn’t eaten dinner. We brought a pizza along. Charlotte met us outside the house and wouldn’t let us enter until we’d eaten outside. We weren’t planning on taking our pizza indoors anyway! But the disdain with which she spoke was degrading. After we finished we found Antonio, who tried taking us to our room but she told him (while we stood right there, being stared at awkwardly by other guests) to have us wash our hands in the kitchen first. With dish soap. There’s more. Other specific instructions/commands included: 1. To fold away the bed cover (it’s very old and precious!). 2. Place a mat when you shower (or it rains in the kitchen) 3. Keep water bottles in the bathroom, not on the furniture (they’ll sweat and stain it). Through the short 15 hours we spent there felt like I was paying $300 dollars/night to tend and care for Charlotte’s furniture and not so we could rest after a long day. Or for a well-made omelette. Also, we’re a brown family. Doesn’t seem like conversations about how dehumanising small acts like this feel have reached this place through the time warp it’s in. Flee. We did.

Great stay!
Loved our stay at Heavitree. The space we stayed in (the tavern room) was extremely large, like a large one-bedroom apartment. The bed was super comfy and the decor made us feel like we had stepped back in time, to the 18th century (in the English Countryside). The grounds were extremely well kept and the Christmas tree farm was lovely! Charlotte, the owner and host, was super friendly and told us a lot about the history of the building and things to do nearby. She also made us a delicious breakfast before we departed for a day of adventure. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks so much, Charlotte!

I really enjoyed the experience of staying at Heavitree. We had the unique experience of an empty house, due to the date of arrival, the night before Easter. Charlotte was so hospitable and very accommodating to our breakfast needs. She was a delightful host and she does an amazing job at maintaining a journey back in time with this beautiful house. We will go back for sure!

Old tavern, new place to stay
This place is amazing. A tavern from the 1700s, the ceilings are low, the rooms unique and the period Christmas decorations were special. The inn keeper was pleasant and rightfully proud of family's tavern in the middle of their Christmas tree farm. The amenities were modern but well placed to fit into the period feel. It was a great place for a glass of wine with the inn keeper before heading to bed. Breakfast in the morning was good and hearty, also plentiful. Plenty of hot water. What more could you want?!

Best B&B on the east coast
This is seriously the best B&B I have ever stayed in. It is incredibly atmospheric- museum quality buildings, in a farm. Perfectly attentive (but not too attentive) hostess, breakfast just how we wanted it, when we wanted it. My daughter and I were beginning a long delayed college trip, and it was the best possible start, so relaxing and so perfectly New England. Thank you so much, Heavitree, and I can see why it is such a popular wedding destination! I hope we will be back and that we meet Abigail (the dog) when we are!

Our stay at this unique but beautiful B&B was excellent. Both hosts went above and beyond. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous situated on a Christmas tree farm. We plan to definitely return at Christmas time . And breakfast was delicious as was the freshly baked apple pie waiting on the table when we arrived !!
