Horrible, dirty, dilapidated, but functional
I chose this place knowing the bad reviews and terrible conditions, expecting the worst, and it did not surprise me. It was dirty, and dilapidated. The tiles and wallpaper were falling off the walls. The owner was friendly, but the room was truly awful. He said that he didn't have my reservation, but could rent me a room he wasn't planning on renting out due to issues. Not sure whether to summate this as a good or a bad thing. Ultimately, my alternatives were 3-4x the price for a 3 star hotel, and 5x the price for the convention hotel, so I chose the bad option to save money. The train literally came every 30 minutes and whistled loudly ever time. If you are a light sleeper, do not rent this place, as even with ear plugs, the trains were hard to ignore. What I can say is that the utilities that I needed were functional: the sink, the toilet, the bed, the ice machine, the air conditioner, the lock on the door. Ultimately, I am glad I chose this place for the price alone, and because my expectations were exceptionally low to begin with.

Great owner and charming motel!
While not fancy, this motel has lots of vintage charm and character! Steve was a great host to my girlfriend and I and our room was very nice. My only problem is the proximity to the train tracks but it didn't prove to be that big of an issue. Plus complementary donuts from Jolly Donut is a BIG plus.

Nice basic hotel with great prices.
Simply put, this is a nice basic hotel with great prices. The owner was extremely cordial. I recommend this hotel. We stayed here because it is close to Cedar point.

Deceiving ratings for this place,don't fall for it
You would think that a motel with such great rating would be an amazing experience, but boy, you would be wrong! Coming from Eastern Europe, i've never seen anything like it over there! We had to wait for our room, as it was being cleaned. The temperature inside the room was almost like outside. They were very nice to turn on the furnace, which was somewhere at the back of the building. We asked for an extra blanket, which we got, but it was dirty with some sort of sauce (i hope it was sauce) and it had some small rips. Didn't say anything about it, thinking we already bothered them enough. Then we noticed old spider webs everywhere on the baseboard and crown molding. Remember, they just cleaned the room. The wallpaper in the room was in a terrible condition, ripped, missing, dirty. The towels and blanked had holes in them, the size of a quarter, so not so small that you wouldn't notice. The plug coverings were missing pieces. And the cherry on top: the walls are v. thin, u can hear everything from the other rooms. The windows, oh, the windows... So thin!!! Forgot to mention the place is very close to a train track that is super busy! There must have been at least 30 trains that passed through during the night and honked constantly. We were told the place was build around the '40s and it sure looks like that even now. The owner was v. nice & the maples in the front old and beautiful & were offered donuts and coffee next day. But it wasn't worth the $130+ paid for 1 night.

Steve, the owner, was super friendly and helpful. The donuts he ordered were delicious. The room are definitely overdue for a makeover and the heating should be addressed. Mattresses were pretty stiff.

A decent budget stay
Steven was friendly and a fun guy to talk Cedar Point history with. The heating system is antiquated which he said is expensive to upgrade. Given that most people stay during the summer, it's understandable why this wouldn't be first priority. A solid place overall that I'd stay at again.

owner was very sweet and attentive. much like other guests, the train tracks were a bit much every 30 minutes. Room was cozy. bed was very basic. it was good for a night. wouldnt do an extended stay.

Love this place for the character and vintage feel. Knew it would have some challenges when I booked it. The owner is very nice and accommodating. Room was clean enough and the beds were comfortable. The walls were paper thin and we could hear word for word the conversations from the rooms next to ours. I was extremely disappointed that the door to the room and the connecting room door did not have additional locks, deadbolts, or anything. As a single woman I feel like this is a huge safety issue. One additional lock inside the room would help to make the room feel much safer.

I love the nostalgia feel. Steve is super nice and the best deal in town for the stay. The freight train didn’t bother us, but may bother some. We’ve been there twice and had the same room both times so curious what the other rooms look like!

The property is very old and there have been spring loaded sink faucits installed to save water but the inconvenience is far out weighed by the incessant dripping of the shower faucit. The train runs all night long and sounds its horn at the intersection accross the street, bring your ear plugs and be prepared for a step into the past, and not the recent past either. It could be restored to its original glory and charm with a little love and money.

Maples is quaint, a throw back to an era gone by. Steve was very personable and a great host. The beds could use an upgrade for sure, other than the constant train coming through it was a quiet little place to stay.

The grounds,and pool are charmi g. This is a family owned motel with lots of pride and history. If you like,to be called by name and treatred great stay here. This motel is not fancy but it is clean with comfortable beds but it is not fancy.

This property was in a beautiful area. It is a vintage, family owned motel, clean with comfortable beds. Quick start complimentary breakfast is enough to get you going. Reasonable price. We would stay again.

While initially friendly, the manager/owner became increadingly irritated when we asked him to fix the toilet multiple times. The wall paper was peeling, the room was musty, and there was mold in the shower. Has potential to be a cute 50s style motel.

Place has kind of a cool old school uniqueness and Steve was very friendly. With some upgrades not a complete makeover, the place could be decent. The 2 mattresses in my room were terrible and no longer flat. No inside door lock of any kind, kinda scary because of that. AC barely adequate. I paid way too much for a place of this condition. Very noisy all night due to close proximity of train tracks. I heard nothing of any of this on the reviews I read before my stay. I can understand not wanting to do a full makeover but get some decent mattresses (at least for guests paying for a half decent place). Put inside locks on all rooms, add some sound proofing to at least the rooms closest to train tracks.

The manager was very nice, and the pool looked pretty nice, but that was about all I was ok with. When we got Into our room, it automatically smelled like just straight chlorine (which I didn’t really mind, I get it there is a pool, but it was kinda overwhelming). But then we noticed a sports bra left on the floor in the corner of the room, and just every corner was dusty, and furniture looked like it hadn’t been moved in a long time. The mattress looked clean though, but super old and very stiff and uncomfortable. I was pretty disappointed and wish I would’ve spent more money somewhere else.

The owner is great and very friendly the housekeeping was wonderful the only complaint I really had was the matress. If you’re looking for a cheaper close to cedar point retro feel option this is it but the mattress do need updated from 1970
