The castle of Frederiksborg at Hillerod, Denmark
The castle of Frederiksborg at Hillerod, Denmark
Situated in Hillerød, north of Copenhagen Frederiksborg Castle is a truly beautiful sight. The original castle was built in the 17th Century by King Christian 4, however after a devastating fire in the middle of the 19th century, the palace was rebuilt by the owner of the Carlsberg Breweries, J. C. Jacobsen. Now the Castle is Denmark's Museum of National History exhibiting the history of Denmark and houses a considerable collection of portraits, historical paintings and modern art. Also visit the castles chapel that survived the fire, and get lost in the stunning palace gardens.
