Disliked: Staff & service
I booked in January for a summer weekend, arrived in July to find hotel closed and had to find another hotel.
I contacted the hotel through expedia and through their website twice in the week running up to my stay. The Guest House did not respond
I arrived to find Hall Bank Guest House locked up and closed.
I had to find emergency accomodation for the night.
I suggest that potential holidaymakers think very carefully before risking booking Hall Bank Guest House
Great location for our trip to Hexham art gallery Haslams. 15 minutes walk from the train station, up a small slope, lovely old building, room was tastefully decorated and not to cluttered with furniture. Window looked out over some trees. Shower easy to use, plenty of towels. Halloween fun fair in the town's market area, it's lovely to see so many families out and about.
I booked in for 3 nights at the Gall Bank GH and after the 1st night immediately asked to extend my stay by a night. Why? Because this GH ticks all the boxes. It's in the middle of a busy little town and yet is in a quiet enclave with on-site parking. The bed was oh-so-comfortable, The room was scrupulously clean. The shower worked perfectly. The breakfast was "whatever you want" and perfectly presented. Perhaps not the cheapest GH I've ever stayed in but certainly the best. Faultless.
Great base for visiting local area or horse racing
Close to Hadrians Wall and various other attractions. Lovely room, great cooked breakfast, with cereal, fruit etc also. Quiet though central area, a couple of minutes walk from pubs, shops etc.
It was our first stay, and it won't be our last! We had a large room with a comfy bed and two very comfortable armchairs. The shower was excellent, the breakfast was absolutely delicious and the staff very friendly. It was great to be in the centre of town, yet quiet and with parking.
Attractive Guest House in the historic town of Hex
Quiet ,comfortable Guest House with private parking within easy reach of Hadrians Wall and the lovely Northumberland countryside. we were made really welcome and the breakfast served was delicious - lots of choice and the hot food freshly cooked. The staff were not resident on site but everything was so spotless and well provided that this was not a problem.
Friendly staff, excellent location very quiet area

Hadian's Wall exploring
Clean and comfortable. Nicely furnished. Staff friendly. All good, once I found the place. Breakfast very good and good options for lunches, tea and evening meals nearby.
Greeted by a notice on the front door requiring me to ring a number. Slightly off-putting but I've come across it before, so it must be general practice nowadays. The aspect of the hotel, the hall and the bedroom were all gloomy. In the bedroom the light had to be on all the time even at midday. It's very conveniently situated. Everything you need within walking distance. The so-called "Hotel Directory" was just a mass of tourist leaflets, some 3 years out-of-date. Perhaps there might have been more info about Hexham town:walking time to rail station, Tescos, visiting hours at Hexham Abbey, Cinema phone no etc.
This is a lovely old house right next to hexham old gaol so right in the middle of town but in a very quiet cul de sac so parking is no problem. Great breakfast good wifi and a really comfi and clean room.
Delightful historic home away from home. BnB, nice breakfast. Simple, delightful. Excellent location near Abbey& other sites, very central to banks, shopping, bus, train, in small friendly town.
Hall Bank Guest House is right in the middle of town, very convenient location. It is a older building, so creaks/squeaks are expected. Rooms were very comfortable, mattress very comfy. We stayed in a family room, with a separate single bed which I do appreciate. Breakfast was alright, although a full english wasn't a "full" english (no beans, or hashbrowns when we stayed) but I might be mistaken as to what is strictly included?
This was a last minute booking but from the moment I arrived, I felt I had hit the jackpot. The location is perfect - close to the city centre and the stunning Hexham Abbey, but in a quiet corner looking out on historic buildings and lush green. Rooms are beautiful, the staff are very kind and helpful. Delicious breakfast. Loved this hotel, where I felt very welcome.
We stayed for one night as we were attending a hotel very close by at Hexham Abby. Our room was lovely, clean, super comfortable bed and big window with a green view. The staff were friendly and welcoming and cook a mean cooked breakfast :)
