Xmas party venue
Went for a Christmas party and stayed over. Meal was very good. Bar prices ok for draught beers and wines but spirits drain the wallet. Disco entertainment kept the dancers happy.
The hotel itself though is very tired and needs spending on. Furniture and decor outdated. Rooms strangely arranged in shape. The first room I was incorrectly shown to had a dirty tissue on the floor so poorly cleaned. The host Igor was happy to relocate me to the room I had booked. I wouldn't tell people to stay away but call in the "offie" on your way !
Shabby and in need of refurbishment. The few staff we met were helpful and friendly but our room was disappointing. Upper windows opened just a crack - had to stand on a chair to achieve even that. Bedding and towels were clean but bathroom floor, corners and nooks and crannies were all grubby. Shower and loo squeezed into a tiny cupboard and the shower was pitiful. Mirror fixed in the wardrobe with gaffer tape - altogether lacking love and attention. The only positive was a good and plentiful breakfast, well cooked and served by friendly staff. A potentially impressive building in a peaceful, beautiful setting but I couldn’t recommend it.

Mixed feelings
We just had a one night stay. We found the staff friendly and breakfast was fine.
Hotel could do with updating, our ensuite had a lot to be desired.
Beds were clean and comfortable.
Bellissima casa signorile immersa nella campagna con un parco notevole. Cameretta sacrificata ma sala della colazione e hall monumentale, come uno se la immaginerebbe nella campagna inglese.
Staff made derogatory comments about Expedia and the amount of money the hotel was paid when customers booked through Expedia. There was no restaurant even though the website advertised 'fine dining'. And although my booking was clearly for 2 beds in one room as confirmed by Expedia the hotel were adamant that this had not been communicated to them by the booking agent
Sceptical when we booked, how could such a property be good value for money in such a great location for Gatwick, I must admit to expecting Fawlty Towers but my fears were soon allayed.
If you want a glass and chrome airport Hotel this place isn't for you, it is a beautiful old manor house in a fabulous location which oozes charm and character. A warm welcome, none of the hassle of big Hotels, easy parking and a few steps to a large bedroom, massive bathroom and what a pleasure to be able to open the windows rather than an air conditioned box. Bed comfortable and water piping hot in the bathroom. No noise as the location is idyllic.
Excellent freshly cooked breakfast to order, served in an elegant dining room.
Sure the place shows the patina of its age but isn't that what you would expect from an old manor house.
Will stay again when next in the area
What a lovely setting for an hotel. Loved the doors that I could fully open when it was so hot.

Poor Check in Service. Emails clearly stated check in was from 3pm to Midnight. Attempted all day to phone and confirm this as was going to arrive very late, but only got an answerphone. The call was not returned. Arrived at 11.30, found the hotel closed up for the night with instructions to phone the night manager. Same as during day, no answer despite repeated phone calls. Unable check in a result. Nightmare!
Very disappointed. If check in times had been a problem, we could have amended our plans. However, an email confirming check in times and an inability to be able to check this, despite numerous attempts, made it impossible to plan properly.
Beautiful location, close to Gatwick (20min drive with traffic), feels like it has some history. Staff were very welcoming and kind. Beds were comfy, rooms clean, breakfast was well presented and tasty. We walked 1 mile through countryside to Half Moon Inn for dinner and it was perfectly British and well worth the adventure. Will stay again.

Stephen.
Sore point first, restaurant was closed and had been since April, web sites do not reflect this.
Check in was great Kim a happy smiley young lady made me feel very welcome and has a great sense of humour. Jim the accountant another great staff member again made my stay brilliant, good fun and we had some great chats. The hotel has great potential with a bit of investment and marketing it would be fantastic. Debra thank you for a great stay, your staff are a credit to you and the Hotel. I look forward to staying again next time I am in the area.

It had character but was a little worn.No record of booking on arrival.
The breakfasts were delicious and the staff were friendly. Our room was not as described on Expedia it was only 15squ and the bathroom and toilet were less than 2squ our heater in our room was not working. We were really looking forward to our stay and were sadly disappointed.
Individual property with beautiful grounds.
Very peaceful.
Comfy beds.
Yummy breakfast.
Excellent value for money.
Only issue ... water pressure ... but by no means a deal breaker.
So much nicer than a bog standard chain of hotel.

Quiet comfortable overnight stay.
Stayed overnight while visiting Hickstead showground for the show jumping Derby Trial. The mansion is in the country in a lovely quiet but accessible spot. It's a little run down but was clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant & welcoming. Nice selection at breakfast with lovely dining room. Beds were comfortable with spotlessly clean white linen. Disappointed unable to have an evening meal at the hotel but given a recommended list of several good local places to eat (could have done with postcode as had to go on-line for details). Only real negative was the en-suite: clean but small. The shower was difficult to regulate & the water pressure poor and surprised to see carpeting on the floor. However, for an overnight stay and providing what I required I would rate the hotel as good overall.
This is a charming hotel and is run extremely well. It is organized and easy going. The reception area is very warm and welcoming, it is well preserved to give it character of an elegant era.
