  • I would not usually consider a garden a must-see experience, but I am really glad a local told us to visit Hamilton Gardens. The experience of wandering through a maze of hedges that open into perfectly cultivated gardens plucked complete from other countries and other eras was quite possibly the closest I will ever come to feeling like Alice in Wonderland come to life. You never know what magical sight waits around the next bend in the path.

  • A few kilometres downstream from Lake Taupo the river changes to some rapids for a short distance. When the rapids finish there is a drop which creates a waterfall. It all ends with this scene which is stunning. Only a 30 second walk from the car park to the river this shot was taken about a 5 minute walk further downstream on the main track at sunrise.

What a great stay for a great price !! The $28 breakfast buffet is excellent with great barrista style coffee . All staff encountered were super friendly ! Room was huge with a nice balcony. Would recommend to anyone .

We absolutely love staying at this property. It is a motel and also has a hotel associated with it. There’s a pool on a hot tub. The building seems safe as it is locked at night and requires key access. It is a great place to launch off into Raglan or the Waitomo glowworm caves. This hotel is exceptionally clean and provides a great value for the price. The staff is super friendly when you check in and very kind. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your hotel.

The air con in the studio room we had booked was very noisy and we got upgraded to a one bedroom unit with a bran new, silent, air con. What a difference it made. The 1 bedroom suite was very spacious, clean and confortable with a small kitchenette. The buffet breakfast was surprisingly good given the cheap price. Beware the hotel is very close to the road so road noise is there. However this didn't prevent me from sleeping well. In summary go for the 1 bedroom unit if the price difference is not that big, definitely worth it.

Room was a good size, is dated and run down especially for the price. Bathroom was quite shabby and had a shower over the bath which the shower head was to the side of the batch making showering not so comfor. Walls seem to be paper thin as can hear loud traffic and people in the other rooms. Staff were good. I didn’t use any of the amenities.
