Exceeded my expectations.
I had an absolutely faultless two-night stay in this hotel, and cannot thank enough the hotel staff who made it so. A perfect location too, with a train station stop right outside. You know exactly what you'll get with the Novotel brand, and it didn't disappoint.

Regretfully there was no restaurant - only a snack bar - in the hotel, whereas the information on Google Maps said there should be one. If that had been the case I would have given this hotel the maximum rating.

Overall good hotel
Modern hotel in a good location if you don’t mind using the ubahn. Entrance to the ubahn station is only steps away- but it’s an extra cost to consider. Breakfast was great and parking is right under the hotel for 19€ per day. Staff were very friendly. Complaints would be the street noise was insane if you cracked your window. Our room was inexplicably hot so we wanted fresh air- but it was definitely noisy. Room was clean but small and no coffee in the room. Overall it was a good hotel, but not great.

non friendly welcome, price/quality is ok.
We arrived late at night and the man at reception spoke the bare minimum to us, no welcome, no explanation of wifi/breakfast - bluntly asked for my credit card for deposit/hold without saying how much it was (240euro!). The room was a decent size, beds were very soft, almost too much so, there was a big silverfish bug in our bath when we arrived. Location of the hotel was quite nice, there is a metro entrance outside. Free wifi is limited - then you need to pay for additional data. I think the price/quality was ok.

Enttäuschung
Wir kennen das Novotel von früheren Aufenthalten in Düsseldorf und Hannover und waren bisher immer zufrieden. Leider war das bei unserem Besuch im Hamburger City Alster nicht der Fall. Gut waren Check-in und Check-out, aber dazwischen war es wirklich nicht dem Standard entsprechend. Obwohl wir erst um etwa 19:00 Uhr anreisten, war das Zimmer nicht sauber: Haare im Wachbecken, Kaffeeflecken auf der Anrichte, und das Bett war auch nicht so nett gemacht wie wir es von Novotel gewohnt waren. Im Restaurant hatten wir zunächst ein Wasser bestellt, nach etwa 20 Minuten Wartezeit habe wir dann Essen und weiter Getränke bestellen „dürfen“, das Wasser kam aber immer noch nicht. Bei der Bestellung wurde uns dann mitgeteilt, dass es von dem an sich schon übersichtlichen Menü nun auch keine Pizza mehr gäbe. Gut, wir bestellten etwas anderes. Nach weiteren 15 Minuten warten, ohne dass irgendetwas gebracht wurde (nicht die Getränke und auch nicht das Wasser auf das wir inzwischen mehr als eine halbe Stunde gewartet hatten), stornierten wir die komplette Bestellung und gingen in einem Restaurant in der Nähe essen. Nach unserer Rückkehr hat meine Frau um etwa 23:00 Uhr bei Housekeeping nach einer Duschhaube gefragt und würde am Telefon sehr unfreundlich behandelt, und eine Duschhaube gab es auch nicht. Insgesamt, war das ein sehr enttäuschender Besuch.

Spent a week here on holidays & we found the hotel easily & there is an entrance to the underground just about 25 meters from the front door. We found the staff very friendly & helpful. They all spoke good english, this was a bonus for us. We were impressed with the bright clean room but it had two single beds, on the second day we enquired if we could get a double room & this was sorted quickly. We found the bar tenders friendly & were good to crack a joke or two. We had room only so cannot comment on the breakfast. This was too expensive for us but there was a Rewe store a short distance away so we were sorted. We loved our stay here, the bed was comfortable & the shower was great & will return again in the future. Thanks to all your hotel staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Good base to explore Hamburg
Good location to explore Hamburg with the U-Bahn right outside. We paid E12 for w ticket which did all of us for the day. Room was nice although a bit tight for 4. Breakfast was excellent - good choices and very nice coffee. We didn't use the bar area but it looked nice. Parking was E18 so we parked on the street at the side for free. Overall very happy.

Need better power outlets!
My only complaint is the lack of convenient power outlets. When I travel for business I have several different things I need to plug in and there were only 3 outlets in the room - virtually all of them inconveniently located. While this may not seem like a big issue - it causes a lot of stress.

An average Novotel stay
We were somewhat disappointed with our stay. The room - a standard double - was fine. The room was large enough but lacked a TV with BBC and/or CNN and the liquid soap in the bathroom ran out and wasn't refilled. Cleaning was a bit lax on one day. We felt the hotel was a bit stingy on what it provides in the room for guests. The local area has little of interest and its a train ride or a longish walk to the St Georg area near the Alster. Having the U Bahn (U1, U3) entrance at the front door is a real plus. Our problems were with maintenance. One night, with little warning, we were told that power would be off to all rooms from midnight to 5 am. We got a flashlight for the evening. If this was routine maintenance on the hotel's power, we think we should have known earlier as it may have caused us to change hotels for this trip. The following morning, one of the two lifts was under maintenance. The other lift couldn't cope. We decided to use the stairs to find them closed while the stairwell was painted. We were essentially trapped on the second floor for 20 minutes as a full lift arrived and departed. Later we found we could use emergency exits at each end of the building, which take one outside the building, but at the time it was not clear whether these doors were alarmed. Really, too much going on for a pleasant night. But that was one of four nights and the others we rate as just about fair for the price paid.

The main strength of this hotel was its staff, breakfast and location all of which were excellent (although no English breakfast tea!) Although the hotel had the facilities of a 4 star it was very much a place to sleep rather than linger. The staff were helpful, when we discovered our kettle did not work it was replaced within minutes and they also gave us additional tea chocolate and milk which housekeeping were rather tight with ( one milk for 3 people for 24 hours!) The breakfast can only be described of as epic (no lunch will be required!) It is right next to the U bahn but you cannot hear it and an 'after 9am' ticket for 3 people all day is only 11.80 Euro, good value and is good for the S Bahn out to the airport. on balance a good value for money hotel.

Easy to get to from airport via underground. Staff friendly and accommodating. Room very clean comfortable and a good size with drink making facilities.Found local cafe for breakfast though as breakfast in hotel was expensive. Next to tube station and main road but made travelling around city very cheap and convenient. Not luxurious hotel but ticked boxes for a good weekend city break.

Great spot for a Hamburg experience
We went with two small children and found it a perfect location from which to venture into this amazing city. It's a relatively quiet area so you can settle down but the U-Bahn is right in front of the hotel and you have access to get anywhere you could want. There is some steet parking available so you don't have to use the hotel parking so keep it in mind.

Nice hotel and convenient location.
Clean and comfortable hotel with restaurant and good breakfast. Not much right around the hotel, but a U-baun stop is right outside the hotel door, so you can get around the city quickly and easily. Nice staff and they had out baby bed set up and ready to go on arrival. Would stay here again if we go back to Hamburg.
