A beautiful and incredibly historical place. We're very lucky to still have authentic places like the nboc. Love the breakfast, please don't change anything.
The views of the river, along with the history and nostalgia of the lodge create an exceptional experience. North Branch Outing Club setting is spectacular. Terry & staff made our stay extremely comfortable and provided incredible hospitality.
We enjoyed 2 days at this lovely, vintage, lodge. If you like history, antiques, and God's beautiful creation, LOOK no more - THIS is where you want to be. There are 2 very lovely porches to enjoy your book or simply listen to the Au Sable & birds and a few steps down to the river for fishing. Great dining opportunities are close or up to 20 minutes away. We plan to stay here again!!
This place is a hidden gem. An historic trout club in a beautiful setting. Terry and her crew provide a delicious and hearty breakfast. And Richard who runs the fly fishing store is a wealth of knowledge.

A step back in time
Very friendly, clean and quaint. The staff is great and this is truly a throwback in time. As noted online, the bathrooms are shared, which can be inconveient, especially in the morning before checkout time. Also, my room did not have any electrical outlets in the room, only a power strip that plugged in outside the window, and a pull light over the bed, a little odd.

Disliked: Amenities
I truly appreciate the staff’s dedication to preserving the historical character of the facility—it’s clear that a great deal of care has gone into maintaining its authenticity. However, some aspects of the stay were quite unusual and challenging for today’s travelers.
The room was very small and lacked modern essentials such as a door lock, microwave, and refrigerator, which are especially important during the summer months. The fan in the open window was not sufficient to maintain a comfortable temperature or humidity level, making it difficult to sleep both at night and during the day. The air-conditioning was non an option. The twin beds were small and not particularly comfortable, which further impacted the quality of rest.
The shared bathrooms had non-secured doors, which did not provide peace of mind. Additionally, the breakfast offering was limited to a basic continental selection—an English breakfast was not available during our stay, despite being expected.
Given these conditions, we chose not to return the next day and instead made the decision to drive home overnight. That said, we are grateful for the warm and welcoming attitude of the staff, which we truly appreciated.
Thank you.

The room i signed up for looked nice. I wasnt put into that room. I was put into a small, dirty, extremely outdated room that was infested with ladybugs. We asked to get the room that i felt i was paying for, and the manager obliged. Its NOT Grayling! Its advertised as Grayling, but its 30 miles away. On a very hairy little tiny dirt road for 9.5 miles. Advertising is horrible. Its not what its meant to be. With that said, Terri was wonderful and very nice. Breakfast was great. If youre a fisherman looking to wake up and walk down to the river....great place! If you want a luxurious, quiet getaway....this is NOT your place.
What a fantastic find! We're always on the look out for places to stay that are not your average run of the mill, cookie cutter, generic hotel experiences, and this lovely old lodge definitely filled all the boxes.
I called ahead because I would be checking in late. I was given Josh’s phone number and reached out to him to set up a check in time, he was very responsive and kind and was there to show me around at almost 11pm. The room was great, very comfortable bed, big bathroom, and breakfast was great as well.
It was historic and unique, walking distance to a local tavern. The staff made us a bonfire and joined my grandson and me for an unwinding evening. We were awakened by the sound of the breakfast bell!!! ( our alarm didn’t go off)! There was a fly fishing shop and I want to go back and renew my skills!
