Fréteval (Loir-et-Cher) Le château féodal de Fréteval. Le donjon. Il est construit au point culminant du plateau qui domine le Loir. Le donjon est directement assis sur le sol naturel. La construction du donjon est voisine de 1090 et la date de destruction du donjon proche de 1428-1429. Un examen approfondi montre que le donjon a été construit d'un seul jet. Architecture du donjon. Innovation pour l'époque, le donjon est cylindrique. Le diamètre à la base est de 15,60 mètres. Sa hauteur de 27,50 mètres, y compris 1,50 mètre de fondations. Les matériaux sont tous d'origine locale ou proche : silex, poudingue, grison*, craie tuffeau et calcaire de Beauce. Le liant est un mortier de chaux. La couverture était vraisemblablement de bardeaux de bois à l'origine, puis de tuiles. La muraille est en maçonnerie fourrée*. La construction a été réalisée à l'aide d'échafaudages successifs posés sur des boulins* engagés dans des trous dans la murailles. On observe seize rangée de trous de boulins espacées d'environ 1,10 mètre. L'alignement vertical des trous de boulins amène une faiblesse de la muraille. Le donjon comprend quatre niveaux: Le rez de chaussée, complètement aveugle avec un sol de mortier posé sur le sol naturel. Le premier étage avec la porte d'accès, éclairé par quatre fenêtres. Le premier étage copossède une cheminée murale et un puits. Le deuxième étage, avec deux fenêtres qui subsistent. Une cheminée murale. Une galerie externe ceinturait cet étage qui devait être l'étage seigneurial. Une porte externe permet l'accès à la galerie. Le troisième étage, avec quatre fenêtres qui donnaient approximativement, comme le premier étage, sur les quatre points cardinaux. Vers le nord-ouest, la fenêtre a été en partie murée. Une partie du troisième étage a été détruite en 1982, emportant les vestiges d'une fenêtre. Les fouilles de la partie basse du donjon ont permis de mettre en évidence : un remplissage d'argile sur 4 m d'épaisseur pour une raison inconnue, des couches liées à une activité de cuisine sur la couche d'argile, des couches résultant de la destruction de la toiture avec présence de tuiles. grison : Le grison est une roche dure constituée d'un agrégat de cailloux siliceux soudés par un ciment ferrugineux donnant une couleur brun-rouille à l'ensemble. maçonnerie fourrée : cad constituée de deux murs montés en pierres entre lesquels était versé un mortier, voir simplement de la terre. boulins : pièces de bois horizontales engagées dans des trous du murs et sur lesquels on pose les planches de l'échafaudage. (D'après présentation sur place de Claude Leymarios, archéologue) Castle Fréteval. The keep was built on the highest point of the plateau overlooking the Loir river. Construction of the tower is around 1090 and the date of destruction of the dungeon near 1428-1429. Innovation for the time, the keep is cylindrical. The base diameter is 15.60 meters. Its height of 27.50 meters, including 1.50 meters of foundations. The materials were taken from the nearby region : Silex puddingstone, limestone. The mortar is a lime mortar. the wall is filled masonry. The roof probably conical was made with tiles. The Dungeon consists of four levels.
