Franeker is a interesting litte town with a rich history. "downtown" you will find the the world's oldest functioning planetarium. It was build by Eise Eisinga in his living room, partly to prove the end of the world was not near at all. Although Eisinga was a patriot in 1787 (not a fan of kings), his house is now a official government (and royal) monument. http://www.planetarium-friesland.nl/en

De Martinastins ("stins" meaning"stone house" or "estate housing the city museum of Franeker. This is the back side with a park, the front now faces the main street.

Location is fantastic - but you get the keys and breakfast at a different location. Building is really old but very authentic - though a bit cold in the room. Lovely breakfast though and staff were very nice.
