"Clean modern and spacious room, unfortunately being woken by the tram rattling past continuously from early morning to late into the night wasn’t appreciated. Also the interior door being banged shut so many times during my stay that I woke up multiple times each night.
Reception staff (a man with Chinese heritage) when asked if I had closed my door properly by just closing it over and not having to scan the card to exit, looked me up and down and pulled the most unhelpful face, exclaiming simply “Yeah” so unfriendly, unprofessional and discourteous. However the man at checkout and woman at check in were friendly and polite, so maybe just one person who seems to need some refresher training on the reception desk.
Overall wouldn’t stay again 2/5 at best. Better hotels available in Sheffield. "
"In the national peak district park Buxton is lovely. Room was OK but decor starting to look a bit dated. Stayed here many times before but I think the new owners are neglecting it in favour of their new hotel on the crescent round the corner. Breakfast used to be table served cooked fresh and served by lovely elderly waitresses, but is now just a hot buffet style and the staff look as though they do not care about the guests. Strict about 11am checkout too. Would still stay here again though because this hotel has character."
"The breakfast was great, the internet was fast, the staff were ok, and the gym was basic but adequate. The carpet in the room appeared to be old and ready to be changed, it made the room feel dirty. During my visit they were replacing fire doors so there was a bit of noise during the days but not unbearable. Very close to the trains for easy access, close to a supermarket and a retail shopping centre."
"Whilst this once nust have been a high prestige hotel to stay at, it's decay is obvious. The wind howls through the corridors and rooms permanently as the floors are uneven and the windows are wonky, creating a permanent draft.
I specifically chose this place because it stated it had a gym, but upon arrival I learned that more than 60% of it was closed because of water damage, with buckets on the floor all over, an evil stink of humidity as water was dripping from the ceiling. Ridiculous they still informed me they also charge 6£ for a day pass, despite only some weights and a bike and pool/titsy tiny sauna were accessible. Why did they not inform me? I would've cancelled my booking and stay at the Leewood, which is fab and has a functioning clean gym. I'm really annoyed and tempted to ask money back.
There's no room service during the stay unless one explicitly asks for it. Flaky wifi also, making it a fail for my business trip.
Total disappointment! I'll discourage anyone from staying there. "
"The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room itself was nice but was looking a little old and worn. It was nice to have access to the spa facilities, it would be nice if these had an upgrade, the area was looking old, worn and dirty and could do with more seating areas/areas to put belongings when using the pool/thermal areas. On the Monday morning there was a lot of drilling and banging from quite early on which was a shame as it did wake us up earlier than planned."
"Room very tired looking and needed updating. Bathroom smelt. Not very pleasant ! Toilet tool holder hanging off the wall but cleanliness was the big issue for me personally"
