Leiterin Restaurant (Frau mit Halstatoo) war sehr unfreundlich - Essen (Buffet und Frühstück) eher jugendherbergstil - Haus nur bedingt hundefreundlich (überall Verbotsschilder) - Zimmer einfach aber ok - Reinigungsservice hat Zimmer einen Tag vergessen - nachts ging Fernseher nicht mehr aus, da Batterie leer, war keine Batterie an Rezeption erhältlich - Fernseher war ganze Nacht an - ansonsten war die Freundlichkeit der Rezeption das einzig positive Merkmal - und die tolle alte Architektur und die beiden Lifte in den Ort - aber ansonsten ist das Haus eher eine aufgemotzte Jugendherberge, als ein Hotel

Great location but disappointing in every way.

The hotel is impressive to look at both when you arrive and when you see it from the cable car as it has an imposing stance over the town. You can feel the former glory of the hotel which is desperately in need of a refurbishment, although the sauna has been updated and is rather lovely, though small. Breakfast was cold. Room service was very poor as guests are expected to collect the items they have requested from the front desk. I was extremely disappointed with the fact that the site says that rollaway beds are available but when you request one you are unexpectedly charged over £100 for an extra person and face a awkward argument with the personnel at check out. Disappointing.

Good value for Engelberg

Having always seen the hotel on other trips here, we decided that it was just the place for a last-minute night's stay in Engelberg. A classic of the town, with lots of history - friendly staff, massive car park and spectacular views (and massive breakfast), just the job. And despite being up the hill away from the Titlis lift station, thanks to the James Bond-esque elevators, you're quickly delivered into the middle of town.

Sehr schöner Aufenthalt

Das Zimmer mit wunderbarer Sicht auf den Titlis war sehr geräumig und praktikabel eingerichtet. Das Servicepersonal aufmerksam und zuvorkommend. Check-in rasch erledigt und alle nötigen Info's erhalten. Die Lage ist ausgezeichnet, zu Fuss ist es nur einige Minuten bis ins Dorfzentrum. Die Bar lädt zu einem Apero oder einem Gute Nacht Drink ein.

It was probably a grand hotel some decades ago...

The hotel looks amazing from the outside, but not that great from the inside. This was probably a great hotel some 30-40 years ago, but big room for improvement today. In addition to looking a bit run down, the mattress in the room was simply terrible. I imagine it is what they offer prisoners. However, when I complained, I did get another mattress the last night (staff was in general doing their best - I was obviously not the first to complain). Breakfast buffet was also sub par for what I expect from a Swiss hotel and the ambiance in the room was more like a sports hall. But location is great with a view over Engelberg, the staff is doing a decent job offering service and the hotel looks nice on the outside...

Lost grandess in a globalized world

Just look for the existing reviews in the category terrible...the hotel is laid out to cater for big groups from India and China. The location, history and architecture of that old Grand Hotel Terrasse are very nice but this hotel lost its grandess a long time ago.

Impressions mitigées...

Literie très confortable dans une grande chambre, mais mauvaise insonorisation des pièces. On vit au rythme de ses voisins de chambre.... et les double-rideaux ne sont pas efficaces contre la lumière des spots qui éclairent toute la nuit la façade du bâtiment. Dommage! Sinon, nous avons apprécié l’accueil, le personnel et le petit-déjeuner, ainsi que la vue sur le village et la montagne.
