Bad experience
When I got to Whispering Pines, they were full and had relocated me to one of their other hotels. The other hotel, Travelers Inn was further away, in a less desirable part of town, and the owner refused to give me a refund.

Dear Rebecca,We apologize about any inconvenience. However, l would like to point out and discuss the other side of the story.You booked a smoking room and wanted a non smoking room. We had the availability at our other location in town, which we moved your reservation complimentary, and which your room was upgraded as well.You also mentioned your family was in Chesapeake, VA and you booked too far away, and wanted to cancel the same day without being charged, however the hotel industry standard cancellation policy is 24 hrs, and we apologize about any inconvenience and you not being able to cancel the reservation without a penalty charge, which is stated in your reservation confirmation email.Lastly, during check in, you were very rude and inappropriate to our front desk manager, who went above and beyond during the check in process to assist you.Overall, it seems that the property nor the staff were any issues. It seems you wanted a refund for a same day cancellation, in this case we could not do, and we apologize about this.For future reference, should you have any issues, please contact a staff member instead of writing a misleading review.We hope this clarifies any confusion you had. Our properties in town always go above and beyond to provide all guests with the best southern hospitality!We invite you back for a 5 star experience here in Elizabeth City!

We were moved last minute to another motel owned by the same owners and told it was recently renovated and cost more but we got for price paid for whistling pines. The rooms were cheaply updated and filthy. Got a nonsmoking room that reeked of smoke, the counters were bumpy with dirt and putting the white towels on the floor came up dark brown from filth.

Nice clean motel in town. We stayed here on the way to OBX. Staff was nice you could tell they are undergoing renovations at the moment, huge TVs in the room are great.

Transferred for Reno.
Because of renovations we were transferred to nearby hotel Travelers Inn. Hotel was everything we expected(nice, clean, moderately priced). Wewere immediately informed about the needed transfer and everything went smoothly. I would definitely stay again.

Nice little motel. This place was clean, comfortable, and safe. I ended up staying weekly, and the manager at the front gave me the best price in town. Will definitely come back again soon!

I visit Elizabeth City a few times a month. This time I decided to try out the Whistling Pines Motel. This property was everything I needed. The rooms were very clean and the staff was awesome. The property was perfect for me during my visit to town. I can see they just renovated the place. Ignore the negative reviews, I give this place 2 thumbs up! Will definitely return soon.

When we arrived it took the counter person several minutes to come to the counter. We were then given the wrong room assignment and the employee had to find us to exchange the room key. Next when checking the bathroom there was no toliet paper. My husband went to the front desk to ask fir toluet paper and and extra ice bucket. He was gone for 10 minutes and upon his rerurn was empty handed. He stated he asked for assistance and the clerk stated they would be right with him and apparently continued to speak with someone in the back room and ignored him. I then went to the feont desk and got the toilet paper and asked for ansecond ice bucket. I got the toilet paper and never received the sedond ice bucket. I was told, "I will see what I can find" and never seen the clerk again. As for the rest of the room, the comforter on the bed had holes in it, the pillow cases were stained, I'm hoping they were actually washed, the remote to the TV didnt work and there was no trash cans in the room at all. Also at one point, the screen door got stuck and we thought we were locked out of the room by the screen door. In the morning, my husband went to the feont deak to check out and there was no clerk on duty. Rang the bell, no one came, so he put the card back in the room and we just left. Luckily we were only spending the night or we would have found other accommodations. I was completely disappointed as the website with pictures made it look like a really cute place to stay.

First thing I noticed upon entering room was pillows with no pillow cases thrown in middle of bed. I went to office and asked about cases. I followed girl out to laundry room where she picked them up from large pile of laundry on floor. Since I was going to a laundromat I washed cases there. When I got back to room rather late, I found there were no towels or washcloths. Office was dark. I dried off with a T-shirt.

The person next there had women running in and out down the street nonstop. An ambulance came and had to pick one up that had OD.

Also, as far as the ambulance goes, the guest in one of the rooms had a medical emergency, so the guest needed medical attention. I am not sure why you would assume "OD". We apologize also that you did not get a refund after using the room because of someone else's medical emergency. The door framing came off the wall as soon as I opened the door to the room. The bed linen smelled bad. There weren't any toiletries in the bathroom, had to send someone to get some from the office. There were bugs in the bathroom as well.

Great for workers at the Solar Site in Winfall
Great for working dads who don’t want to spend too much. Probably could be a little cheaper but not enough to really keep me from staying. Very near to food and my job site

Very nice updated room. Only downside was that it was next to the front office and walls are not soundproof. So you hear every phone ring and every customer who comes in.
