The entrance to this 1800s building is pretty dismal and it came as a complete surprise to someone not familiar with the ancient style of Edinburgh buildings. However, the apartment itself is very modern.

Schickes Appartement mit guter Verkehrsanbindung
Die Kommunikation vorab war problemlos und sehr nett. Wir sind zu zweit gereist und haben die Unterkunft zügig gefunden. Der Schlüssel war in einer Box mit Zahlenschloss hinterlegt. Das Türschloss von der Eingangstür war leider sehr störrisch und nur mit viel Mühe und Geschick zu öffnen (hier besteht allgemeiner Verbesserungsbedarf). Hier nicht den Mut verlieren! Der Hausflur war nicht schön und leider haben wir die Wohnung nicht direkt gefunden, da diese kein Klingelschild oder ähnliches hatte. Dank einer hilfsbereiten Nachbarin konnten wir die Wohnung jedoch ausmachen und beziehen. Die Wohnung ist im Vergleich zum ersten Eindruck des Hauses ein wahrer Schatz gewesen! Sie war sauber, hell und modern. Ganz wie auf den Bildern dargestellt! Die Betten wurden separiert, konnten jedoch auch als großes Bett umfunktioniert werden. Die Matratzen waren angenehm. Nicht zu hart, nicht zu weich. Obwohl an einer Hauptstraße gelegen konnte man entspannt schlafen. Wir hatten das Fenster über nach geschlossen, um sicher zu gehen, dass wir nicht frühzeitiger geweckt werden. Im praktischen Badezimmer wurden Handtücher und Shampoo bereitgestellt. Im Wohn- und Esszimmer war alles zu finden was benötigt wurde. Sogar ein paar Snacks, Tee und Kaffee. Das Sofa ließ sich auch als Schlafsofa umfunktionieren. Der Check-In und Check-Out erfolgte via Tablet. Ein Supermarkt und ein paar Restaurants waren in einem Umkreis von 10 Minuten zu Fuß entfernt. Der Bus in die Stadt fuhr direkt vor der Haustür ab.
Convenient hotel for my purpose and a bus stop right outside to get into the city centre. The apartment has been refurbished and it was all very smart and clean. Equipped with everything you need to be able to travel light and self-cater.
There was a distinct downside while I was there - on arrival the broadband was down, so no way to adjust the heating (it happened to be very cold at the time), no TV and no means to check in or use the tablet containing information about the property. A phone call gave directions to resolve the broadband (and therefore TV as it was Virgin Media) and partially resolve the other matters.
There is no lighting outside or inside at ground level, which made getting in and out the front door tricky and given the steps leading down to the door to go out, on the dangerous side as I was arriving and leaving during the hours of darkness. I know most people carry mobile phones, but not all do. If you are one of those, then you'll need to have a torch handy.
