Where do I start? The rooms, the food, the service? I wouldn’t know because my room was cancelled at around 11am on the day I was supposed to arrive. I was told there was a fire and all bookings were cancelled. That’s fair, it happens; and I was told I’d be relocated. All good. I’m travelling from Aberdeenshire (3 hour drive) and texted a few times but no response. I turned up at the guesthouse to find out that there were keys on the table for other people (so all bookings hadn’t been cancelled) and the ladies at the desk seemed very confused at the mention of a fire. Was there one? Who knows. Tried phoning owner. No response, rung out. Got the ladies at the desk to phone; she instantly picked up. Nothing like being pied when you’re hours away from home and nowhere to stay, am I right? I was very frustrated at this point, it had been a long drive after all. Owner told me that I had to sort relocation myself (as Expedia should have contacted me already) and that I had to phone hotels.com. Of course she had no number for them, not that she replied to my text asking for one anyway: had to speak to the ladies again. Why would I be sorting my own relocation in any instance anyway? I then spent nearly 2 hours between phone calls trying to get somewhere sorted, ruining my evening plans. I eventually got relocated in the city centre, during the fringe, so that was a further drive onto our quickly escaping evening. hotel didn’t look clean anyway. Ladies at front were nice though.
