This property is under new ownership so it is in the process of becoming a 5 star accommodation. There is work being done and I suspect that if I stay there next year I will be giving it 5 stars. Overall, the room was clean and the staff was very helpful. The hotel is in the perfect place for people wanting to save a few dollars by driving a bit after visits to South Bend or the surrounding area. Nice hotel and if I am ever in Dowagiac, I won't hesitate to stay here again.

The check in was great. We stayed here before and we really enjoyed it. And left, the great review. This is our second time staying there. And it was horrible. We could not get in the door to our room. Had to get help. The outside doors were open, anyone can get in. We were told, they are having card issues so they leave them open. Great security!. Everytime we left to go out, the whole hallway smelled like cigarette smoke, our room smelled like cigarettes a bit when we got there. Shame on you guys.

The outside of the building does not look very welcoming, but the rooms are spacious and clean and had new fixtures. What I did not like was? There's no coffee maker in the room and the pool was out of service.

None of the exterior key passes worked to enter the building. Had to call family member in room to open door. Bathroom missing heat bulb, lamp missing a bulb plus light flickered even when shutoff (removed the other bulb at night). Carpet felt very damp/wet??? Tub was stained. Front desk personnel very friendly and helpful when asked for items (towels/toilet paper). Odd room was not cleaned between nights. We stayed two night hence having to go to the desk for items.

For the price, this place was good. Overall the room was clean. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The bathroom was clean as well, with the exception of the shower curtain that needs to be changed. The toilet could be upgraded as well. It was a slow flusher. You needed to hold the handle down for it to completely flush. Again, all in all. It was nice, safe and I would stay again.
