We had a great stay.
The whole team very helpful and very friendly.
Great breakfasts.
The best prawn cocktail I've ever had.
Thank you.
Vikings also made an appearance.
Ivy and Ann Marie are great! Loved our stay at the Smithfield. Gas and groceries across the street. Breakfasts were fantastic. Dinner options in the immediate area are limited. Surrounding area is beautiful with relaxed atmosphere.

Sadly the hotel no longer has a restaurant and bar. Apparently they’ve been unable to get staff which seems to be an island wide issue. However the rooms are clean though a little dated. The breakfast was good and the staff accommodating.
We had a very enjoyable and restful 5-night stay here. The accommodation was very comfortable and in a convenient location for getting around the island (and travelling to others), while being nice and quiet as well. It's a shame that the restaurant is currently out of action but there are plenty of options in quite easy driving distance (although we would advise booking ahead, as a lot of them were quite sought-after). And an excellent breakfast was laid on (and a packed meal for the day of our early departure) by the very helpful staff. Also, there's a well-stocked Asda just across the road. It was a lovely holiday and we're very grateful for the opportunity to visit such a wonderful place.
The overall property was good, the room was somewhat spacious, the breakfast was good!
Upon arrival, it was difficult to see there was parking behind hotel and where the front door was. There was a step up into the bathroom, and very restricted room while sitting on toilet. My husband's knees were slammed against the towel warmer.
Ann Marie at reception was exceptionally helpful, and she got us dinner reservations at a nearby hotel. Very disappointed that the restaurant at the Smithfield was closed after we had made reservations for hotel stay.
This place was clean and comfortable with a nice breakfast. However, we booked it as a hotel with a bar and restaurant, which had ceased to operate by the time we got there. This is an issue in a fairly remote location with no other dining options. We were hiking, and the nearest place was almost 2 miles away. It needs to rebrand as a bed and breakfast. Although the staff were lovely, reception was usually closed with a phone number to call. This was the second time this has happened on our trip to Orkney. There seems to be a serious issue with finding staff, even though demand is high. While we were there, at least half the guests were hikers and cyclists. With no restaurant, perhaps the former hotel facilities could be converted into a self catering lounge with kitchen area, maybe a washer dryer. Drying room for boots and wet coats would be good. The life saver is the big Asda across the street with a good selection of food and alcohol!
Don't book this one if you have other options. It is a low level B&B, not a hotel. Room is small and not designed for a bedroom, big window is right above your bed, cold air will blow on your head when you are sleep. They give us a very small table for breakfast, I asked them is this table for one person or two? The answer was its for one person but it is for two of you. It is a very bad answer. Also, they only provide one meal for two person, they let us share one meal. I am a history researcher, when to many countries, never seen such bad service. Do not book this hotel if you have any other options. Thanks for reading.

Restauranten er srengt
Hotellet reklamerer med restaurant og bar, men begge deler var stengt. Så kun bed and breakfast. Enkelt rom uten arbeidsplass, men fin dusj. Enkel frokost.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Smithfield Hotel. Lovely room, comfy bed, and great shower. Excellent breakasts and restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful!
From the minute we were greeted at check in until we left we were so impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The seafood in the restaurant was one of the best meals we had in Scotland. Room was as advertised. Great little spot!
Excellent host, meeting all of our needs. Exceptionally good breakfast, each morning. Hot and made to order. Very good location, close to shops and restraunts.
