The hotel has obviously undergone some renovations, reception area and restaurant both very nice. I didn't however think that this extended enough to the bedrooms, curtains were old, there were dead bugs in the light and the table lamps were wobbly.
The bed was however really comfortable and the hotel was nice and quiet so I slept really well. There is a balcony to the room which is a nice addition, but not useable this time of year.
Nice that the bathroom had a bath, although minimal towels provided, one bath towel and one hand towel. I imagine that's to be eco, but there was no bath mat, or flannel and nothing to dry my hair with.
Breakfast was tasty and couldn't fault the staff on front desk and restaurant.
I think this hotel would come alive in the summer, walking from the hotel block to breakfast in the rain was less appealing.
Also be aware that there is a £10 charge for parking per night, this isn't advertised on hotels.com, and isn't the first time that hotels.com have tripped me up on the same reason, so add £10+ to your stay.
