So let me share a story. I flew to Doha on 12 June, 2025 and arrived at the hotel around 23:42. I had meetings the following day at 8am on a Friday. At the reception I was told that my reservation didn’t go through and it will need some time and that I should wait for around 15 to 20 minutes. I waited for around 3 hours. I was repeatedly told that the reservation didn’t go through. I was told I should cancel my reservation with Expedia and make a direct reservation with the property. All of a sudden this stopped being a four season hotel. It was something else. I asked the receptionist and duty manager to check me in and settle this issue later. Both made it clear that they will not check me in before the reservation shows on their system. I called Expedia and they did their best and spoke to the receptionist and confirmed that (1) my reservation is confirmed at their end, (2) that the property issued a confirmation number, yet that didn’t convince the receptionist and duty manager to check me in. Finally I conceded. I cancelled my initial reservation. I made a new reservation directly with the property. It didn’t matter to the staff the history I have with this property, it didn’t matter that I was exhausted and tired, it didn’t matter to the staff that I am a platinum member of Expedia, and that I am a frequent flyer. They insisted on cancelling the reservation. They even suggested I reserve directly with them in the future. I checked out at 12.
