  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Didn’t get to try breakfast or the bar. The thermostat on the wall didn’t work I had to use the buttons on the ptac unit or whatever its called.. barely got any channels on my tv but overall it was a good place to stay. I would book again

I got an amazingly good deal literally paid $27 for the night i wad totally expecting to pull up to a roach motel tbh and i couldnt of been more wrong. Was an excellent stay for such short notice. The satff was friendly and helpful, faculty was clean, the pool/hot tub was clean and stocked full of towels. Would definitely recommend!!

The fire alarm was working, I got to meet some of the other guests. The people working the desk deserve a raise! With about 100 people in the lobby, they kept cool, and courteous.

Definitely an average budget hotel. The room was clean, there were enough towels, the bed was comfortable enough, but the overall atmosphere screamed "basic budget hotel". The hallways smelled like cleaning chemicals, the pool smelled heavily of chlorine (you could smell it from the hall), the breakfast buffet had a very limited selection with almost no fruit, etc. I got the "Cyber Monday sale price" for the room ($45/night+tax). I don't think the place is worth more than that price...

Property is going through a branding change with upgrades coming but public areas were nice and the guest room was excellent. Staff was very responsive to a stuck-door issue that came up. If definitely stay again.
