Great hotel in great location

We stayed two nights in the nice and quiet village of Clarens. The hotel is comfortable and has nice service and breakfast. Very convenient for walking the little downtown, do the hikings around or drive to the Golden Gate National Park. Recommended.

I would highly recommend the Protea in Clarens. It has a contemporary feel and the rooms are comfortable. It is also very well situated to explore the small town. The only downside was the very noisy air conditioning unit.

Our welcome was perfect, and giving us a choice of room, assisting with the app, always greeting us with a smile! When my husband lost his driver's license, the staff was there to help us! A place to return to.

Average stay.

It was lovely to stay in Clarens and at the Protea Hotel but there are wayyyyyy better options available. The buffet breakfast was very good. But the rooms were small and there wasn’t much in the room itself. I would have wayyyy rather used that money somewhere else.

We enjoyed the trip there, the town and of course the hotel. From reception, which was quick and friendly to the bar and restaurant. Pity we didn’t have time for the pool which looked very inviting.

No room with a view

The hotel is well-sited, and in good condition, but when we stayed was very empty, and they still put us in a room with no view. The chef (who, for some reason, helped us with our luggage) attempted to convince reception to put us in a better room, but they were having none of it.

Good location in the heart of the Village

This property has a great location in the village with an easy walk to all local attractions. Although it lacks the "charm" of the more authentic accommodation options, the level of facility and quality of rooms is in fact great and better than average in the area. The front desk staff seemed poorly trained and less than friendly and the restaurant was uninspiring but with so many local options it was really just a base to sleep at and from that perspective it is great and offers good value!

3 Night stay in Clarens

The hotel is well located on Main Street in Clarens, and a walking distance to all the popular spots within central Clarens. The check-in was quick, fast and efficient. The hotel team was always friendly and professional. Breakfast was included in our stay, which included a surprisingly delightful spread. I was really impressed with social distancing and Covid-19 measures taken by the Hotel.
