Location was perfect for us
We were visiting family who have moved to the area. This was the nearest accommodation available. We had seen the reviews, we were aware of what to expect. You can not find cheaper accommodation than The Pines. Staff delightful. Breakfast was excellent. Bed was very comfortable, we all slept well. The decor isn’t the most up to date but if you want somewhere super fancy and trendy, you will pay a lot more than this.
The location of the hotel was good, as it's an easy walk to town centre. However, the hotel looks like it has been abandoned for years: black cobwebs at the entrance, no receptionist to greet, the toilet bowl of my room was browner than chocolate (bleaching it everyday will help to remove that), very soft bed (it should be medium firm mattress to accomodate the comfort of all kind of travellers), who puts a tv behind the door?, shower gel should be replaced everyday, not used from years ago (bottle was dirty and the handgel had been diluted with water). An investment in a general irefurbishment is what the hotel needs.
Decor is tired and dated. Bed linen, surfaces and crockery was clean but the stair carpets were very worn and room corners and skirting very dusty and grubby. Toilets need a good clean round the bend but seats were clean. Cooked breakfast good but only 2 cereals to choose from, no choice or brown or white toast and no tea available at breakfast. Only saw on member of staff who was lovely and very helpful.
However, it was a budget price and we had all we needed and the beds were very comfortable. Price reflected our experience
Great value for money.
Perfect for a couple of nights in chippenham.
It has everything all the other places i've stayed in with the added bonus of a fridge.
Would stay here again.
The Pines is the perfect place to stay if you want something off the tourist path yet convenient to see sites in Southern England. It's a charming inn, a little shabby with lots of character. The room was comfortable and had a mini fridge and kettle; the bath was spacious.
The Pines in very convenient to the rail station, an easy 10 minute walk.
The host was extremely personable and helpful and went out of his way to accommodate my family. I would definitely stay here again.

A quick check in, but the room was needing some TLC. The bed was comfortable. Getting to the car park behind the property was stressful as the passage was so narrow, even with the wing mirrors tucked in.
Cleanliness was adequate. The toast at breakfast was only lightly toasted but this was remedied after speaking to the staff

I was greeted by a friendly member of staff upon arrival and was helpful with my requests. I was able to park at the front of the property. It would be nice to have the WIFI passcode in the room and also a lock on the door.

A comfortable sleep.
The Pines could best be described as utilitarian. It could do with a lick of paint and the bathroom perhaps was a tad shabby but when I stay at a hotel all I want is a quiet night's sleep in a comfortable bed and I certainly got that and I would stay there again.
