No place like Home (or the University Inn)

Always feels like at home st at the University Inn. Good improvements have been made over the over the last several months management /owners are making sure their customers are comfortable every night, conveniently located close to everything in Chico, reasonably priced

Very good value. The location is excellent, with walking distance to numerous restaurants downtown. Older hotel being nicely renovated. My room is very clean, new furniture, new hardwood flooring, new, comfortable beds, new TV with excellent selection of programming, very quiet and good air conditioning. Highly recommend.

Great location but in poor condition

This is a run down hotel in the best downtown location. We had to switch out our room due to a broken bed and noise above. When we got the new room the fridge, microwave and tv didn’t work🙄- the only great thing about the place was the excellent staff service which apologized for the state of ill repair.

I went to this hotel during the Pandemic about 2-3 years ago. It was under construction at that time. Looks like the remodeling has been completed. They have done a good job. The lobby, room, and exterior of the place looked nice. Me and my wife spend a few hours by the swimming pool. It was nice and clean.

The room could’ve been nice but there were several things where a score of 2 or 3 really seals it. Check in was pleasant but if I show the pictures you’d get what I mean. The tub was filthy I could not get into it and the paint job was bad. The bed was clean and a bit hard but sleep capable.

Don't expect much and it's fine for a night. Staff were friendly and efficient. Room wasn't pretty (spackle on walls, some lightbulbs out) but it seemed clean. Biggest issue was noise throughout the night.

The rooms are in the process of renovation. My room had new flooring. Overall the room is no frills and definitely not a boutique hotel. but it is located in downtown Chico and is very cost effective.

Well there is a 100 dollar deposit I was not told about so I was refused the room. But yet still charged for it the manager was ok but be did try a little bit less of a deposit but it still didn't clear if he tried a 85 dollar deposit it would of cleared and I would of had the room for the night. I understand that they needed to charge something for the reservation but for the whole room which I'm sure it was rented after me. I couldn't believe the whole price of the room. So than I had to walk around all night not having enough for another room if I didn't show up than my card would never of been charged anything. how do they get to charge more for the deposit than the room cost. Anyways I will never stay there again that's a promise.

My stay at the university inn was horrible! Everything from dirty rooms, broken ice machines, missing iron, to them taking my whole deposit. They took 100$ because they said my sheets were dirty. ( i guess they haven't heard of a washing machine). I tryed to call and talk to the boss, i was told to call back in 30 min. When i called back they ignored my calls. Untill i called from different number. And still haven't talked to the boss. They dont offer any kind of housekeeping during your stay! Probably the wrost hotel i have ever stayed at...

Disappointed room, dingy, the a/c leaked on the floor over night, the lights between the beds were very loose, the plug cover was missing. We reserved for 4 adults, the room only had two small bath towels and the customer service agent at the office was reluctant to hand out more “unless you return the two towels”!! The pool was not open, “speak with the customer service agent after you settle into your room” No recycling bins, had to use major local trash cans.

The staff has been very accommodating, I have stayed here a few times and they have arranged for me to stay in the same room every time. They have been very helpful even with my late night check ins. The area is close to downtown and I feel very safe, the parking is well lit and staff is in the office 24hrs, the rooms are very quiet.

Staff was courteous and check in was quick but the thing about paying for dirty towels was off putting. Once in room tv did not work, a/c was a hit and miss and I personally had to fix bathroom door knob with my multi tool or it would have fallen off or trapped someone when it would have fallen off. It was the cheapest hotel I could find and that is what I did get. Will reconsider price point for better fit to needs: even if a bit higher. Area around is calm and some good places to grab a bite. A walk to downtown so park and walk. Some in esent is needed on facility to make this be a two star and major investment for greater but no likely given it was full due to cheapest option
