Peaceful and gorgeous

We absolutely loved Casa Shiva. We were there during the off season so everything was pretty quiet. We spent a LOT of time on the pier hanging out and reading and swimming - it was a breathtaking view and the water is beautiful! The employees were awesome - very friendly and helpful. Their breakfast was amazing too! We loved it and hope to be back. Its simple - not a lot of extra frills, which we loved.

Loved the staff, they were very attentive and present. The location was great with easy access to the lagoon. Room definitely needed better maintenance, they lacked towels. There were some animals living in the roof that made noise all night.

The front of Hotel Shiva at first glance doesn’t seem like much but their lagoon property view has the WOW factor and a very good reason to stay there. The rooms are well kept and have what you expect. Not sure about the other rooms but mine had no tv or mini fridge. We did have breakfast there which was good and convenient. Would stay again and recommend.

Great vibe!

This place has nice decks with loungers under palapas over the water. It has a very relaxed vibe. The cabin is not luxurious, but has a bed, ac, lights, shower, sink toilet and 1 outlet on each side of the bed. The bed is on a very low platform, maybe 4-6 inches off the ground. It was not the most comfortable bed and we only had one pillow each. Breakfast is made to order and was delicious. The staff speak very little English, but are very kind. It is the sort of place that is great in your 20s, but If you are laid back, this spot was wonderful and we loved the staff.

If you want a romantic getaway this place is it , very private and semi secluded. The scenery is perfect as you are across from a bird sanctuary area. Kayaks and paddle boards are included in your stay and the staff will get you what you need from food and drinks . Definitely will come back soon!

There was no running water, no power, after a storm, no staff to help us, there was a leak spraying water in our bathroom. We had to leave early, no one to check us out and no refund! I sent an email to the property and they did not respond. The worst place I have stayed - do not book at this hotel!

Everything was great except the 1st night we stayed in the dome. When we 1st got in our room it was warm, we attributed it to the outside climate, however after the AC stopped running,they swapped us rooms and thats when we realized the AC wasn't working as intended the previous day (new room was really fresh). I brought it up to the receptionist but they told me i should've brought it up earlier even though i had no idea that wasn't how it was supposed to be ( I had nothing to compare it to). Everything else was great.

Waterfront location and deck can't be beaten

We stayed 3 nights in Casa Shiva. Selected the hotel based on price-location-amenities ratio. Location: the best! Waterfront area is very peaceful, plenty of space for all guests. Never a time when hammocks, swings, or chairs were all taken. Wonderful blue water, just some paddle boarders and kayacks occasionally passing by. Best sunrise in Bacalar. Breakfast: included with the room. Sufficient, well made: eggs, coffee and juice, yogurt & fresh fruit, toasted bread. Served by the waterfront with amazing views. Room: Basic, but clean and spacious. Well functioning A/C, remodeled bathroom, good shower (plenty of water pressure, and hot water). Bath soap provided in wall dispensers. Beach towels provided in the room. No coffee maker, iron, or hair dryer in room. Double rooms (not cabannas) are right by the breakfast area. Front windows only have mosquito screens, not glass, so it is a bit noisy in the morning when they are setting up for breakfast at 7:30am (also, when they play music). NOTE: Casa Shiva no longer has kayaks available for guests to use. They must be rented from outside company now. Final thoughts: not the best sound proof rooms, but the overall location of the hotel and that fantastic waterfront make Casa Shiva totally worth it.
