• Your travel documents and ID will need to be shown to airport security. Keep them within easy reach so you don't hold up the queue.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on bag will be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, remove anything that might set the alarms off. Items such as your jacket, belt and earphones need to go through the machine.
• All your electronics, including your laptop and phone, must also be scanned separately.
• Any gels or liquids, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a clever footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and other heavy shoes are often subjected to additional screening.
