• A plane trip can be a pleasure if you pack the right gear. Firstly, you'll want a few toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your mobile phone, a charger, your important medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

Sharp objects, like your pocket knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and poisons, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your priority when deciding what to wear during your flight. Loose clothing is a smart option, as are enclosed shoes like sneakers.
• Most travelers have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and move your lower limbs often.

• First things first. Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be shown to airport security. Keep them at hand so you don't hold up the queue.
• Next up, both you and your carry-on luggage must be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, take off anything that is likely to set the alarm off. Items like your belt, jacket and earphones need to go through the machine.
• For just a few moments, you'll need to unplug from technology. Your phone, laptop and any other electronic devices also need to go through the scanner.
• Any gels or liquids, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when going through security. Safety boots and other bulky shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed in the cabin.
