Depending on where you're coming from, your journey to Delhi could be completely painless or it could drag on forever. We've put together some useful travel tips that will help you start your next great adventure on a positive note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• First of all, pack your passport, travel documents, cash and vital medications. Next, you'll need some in-flight entertainment to help pass the time. A thrilling novel and a laptop filled with your favorite shows are some fantastic options. If you intend to catch up on some sleep, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of earplugs will also be useful. Finally, leave space for a few toiletry items so you'll arrive at your destination looking fresh and raring to go.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Double-check that you don't have a pocket knife hiding in one of the compartments of your carry-on luggage. Other prohibited items include explosive or flammable goods, such as aerosol cans and bleach, and liquids and gels in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your number one priority when deciding what to wear on board. Loose clothing is a sensible option, as are flat, slip-on shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It's the result of blood clots forming due to poor circulation, so do some gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat and consider wearing compression socks.

• Your travel documents and ID will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Have them close by so you don't hold up the queue.
• The X-ray machine is up next. Empty your pockets and remove anything that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes things like earphones or headphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• All electronic gadgets, including your tablet and phone, are also required to be scanned.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or hand cream, that you want to take on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• It's also possible you'll be required to remove your shoes for scanning, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a good idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
