No matter where you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you're well prepared. We've made a list of handy tips that will help get your Otsu escape started on the right foot.What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a great experience if you bring the right things. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh set of clothes and a magazine or two. Secondly, leave space in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, your medications and maybe a blow-up neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, be sure to take your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Make sure you don't have sharp or pointed objects lurking in your hand luggage. Other restricted items include flammable or explosive goods, such as aerosol cans and bleach, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

• Your goal here is to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Don layers of breathable clothing and don't forget to pack a jacket just in case you get cold. Opt for well-fitting, flat shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the flight. Leave the high heels and chunky boots in your checked baggage.
• Caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a serious condition that can affect passengers during long-haul flights. But the great news is there are proven ways to lower your risk of developing it. Stay hydrated, get up and walk around the cabin as much as possible and wear compression socks or tights.

It's all about being prepared. We've compiled some tips and tricks for an easy trip through airport security. Watch out Otsu, here you come:

• Your travel documents and ID will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Keep them within easy reach so you don't have to dig around for them.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, jacket, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them before your turn.
• All electronic devices, including your laptop and phone, are also required to be separately scanned.
• Remember to remove liquids and gels from your hand luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray separately. Each item should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• It's also likely that you'll be asked to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a clever idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, put them in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board.
