A plane ride can be a comfortable experience if you carry the right things. First of all you'll need basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a spare pair of socks and something to read. Next, find room in your carry-on bag for your phone and charger, any daily medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
While the list of restricted items differs between airlines, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like box cutters, razor blades, spray paint and fireworks. Sports equipment like hockey sticks, and items that could harm other people, such as pepper spray and guns, won't be allowed on board either.
What to wear on a flight:
The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Dress in comfortable layers and go for shoes that are closed-toe, flat and easy to slip on and off.
Most travelers have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To minimize your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and move your lower limbs often.
Airport security personnel first need to make sure that you have a valid ID and travel documents before anything else. Have them ready to show.
Next up, both you and your carry-on luggage will be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, remove anything that might trigger the alarms. Personal belongings such as your belt, jacket and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
All your electronic gadgets, including your phone and laptop, must also be separately scanned.
Can't travel without your favorite hand cream? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a clear zip-lock bag, you're permitted to bring it with you in your carry-on baggage.
Slip-on shoes are a sensible footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when passing through security. Safety boots and other bulky shoes are usually subjected to extra screening.
Sharp items such as knives and scissors are not allowed on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them safely away in your checked luggage.
