I hadn't stayed at his property for almost 40 years, and I was pleasantly surprised at its current condition. Everything was in very good shape, at a price considerably below other hotels in the immediate area. The included breakfast was among the very best I've ever had in a hotel, and the staff was friendly and efficient. The only negative I can mention is the furniture in the room and in part of the common area at reception. The lounge chair/ottoman were absolutely the hardest, most uncomfortable I've ever seen anywhere. I honestly can't imagine a furniture manufacturer making such an uncomfortable product, and I'm astonished that a hotel would purchase it for guest rooms. In spite of that, I would definitely return to this hotel in the future.

This was my second stay at this property. The room was as comfortable, the staff as friendly, and the breakfast as good as the first time. Yet it still had an issue I would not expect in light of the overall quality of the establishment: the bathroom sink didn't drain. I wasn't there long enough for it to be a problem, but it would have been an annoyance had I stayed longer. Nevertheless, it's a very good place to stay if you don't mind a handful of issues that one would expect at a property of less quality.

Overall, this is a really nice place to stay. Clean and comfortable room. Nice linens. Quiet heat pump unit. Good soundproofing. The bed was a bit firm for my taste. But breakfast was excellent--eggs, sausage, pancakes, cottage cheese, and more. Most places don't offer a real meal anymore so this was a pleasant surprise. The pool looks great but isn't open late so I didn't get a chance to try it out. The staff is very friendly and helpful, though I suspect spread a little thin. I stood at the counter for almost ten minutes at check-in before someone showed up. There was no bell to ring to call them, just a sign asking for patience. There were some odd deficits I did not expect considering the overall quality of the hotel. The 3rd floor water pressure isn't great. The sink was designed with the faucet spout so close to the back of the bowl that only people with small hands could comfortably wash in it. And on the second day, the fresh bath mat had several (about five) holes in it, bigger than 1/4" but smaller than 1". These weren't dealbreakers, just odd. The only real drawback was lack of lighted parking. One evening I arrived late and had to park behind the building where there were no lights. So far as I could see in the dark, there was also no guest entrance on that side of the building, requiring a walk around the darkened perimeter of the building to get in. Overall, a nice stay. I would definitely go back.

Nice place with a unique theme, good lounge area and excellent breakfast - best grits I've ever had. Breakfast staff polite and warm, front desk staff is all business (front desk won't proactively tell you that there is no wifi password or what the breakfast hours are, but look at the tablet that is set up at the front desk and it will have this info).

Staying at the English Inn was a delight compared with other hotels on our trip to Virginia. The employees were very helpful and friendly. The pool was the best we've ever experienced. The breakfast was great!

Make sure you ask for a room that has no odor coming from the new couch. Apparently they waited 6 months for delivery and they sat in boxes the entire time. I assume they must have gotten wet because ours smelled like dirty feet and the odor permeated throughout the room.

We loved the Inn. We were in Charlottesville for a soccer tournament and the location was very central to everything we needed. The pool was fantastic!! It is huge. So much fun for the kids after the games. We will definitely stay here again!!
