I was recently back in the Carson area visiting family, and we decided to stay at Carson City Plaza. My dad’s cousin helped open and manage it, and they even held a memorial celebration for her there. I remember it being pretty nice, so we gave it a try. Sadly, it’s clear those days are gone.
Check in was at 3pm, so we lined up to check in, and we were told "you can't check in yet." I was confused and said "Isn't check in at 3pm?" They said yes, but that rooms weren't ready yet and we'd have to wait. Understandable, but awkward first interaction by, point blank, telling someone they can't check in yet. Context is always helpful...
The "hotel" is 3 separate buildings. A main building, and 2 grungy motel-style buildings behind the main parking lot. The room was in extremely poor condition: stained carpet, torn comforter, chipped and stained sink, broken fixtures, and water damage, potentially mold, in the bathroom area. One of the beds had dirty sheets. Poorly maintained and did not match photos online. Right outside of the bedrooms, there were various chairs and office chairs, where people, including staff, would congregate and smoke in. Ironically near signs saying "no smoking within 25 feet of building."
I requested a full refund based on the condition of the room, which was not as advertised. I was offered a partial refund, which I ultimately had to escalate through my credit card company — they reviewed the photos I submitted and approved a full chargeback.
