Because space is tight, standard activities like drying off with a towel or reaching overhead can easily bump the heat-sensitive glass bulb or deflector. ​Accidentally breaking a sprinkler head triggers an immediate deluge of water and sets off the building's fire alarm. This causes severe room flooding, property damage, and unnecessary disruption for the entire hotel. ​While building codes vary by location, installing inexpensive metal wire guards over low-clearance sprinkler heads is a simple, proactive fix. Hotel management should add protective cages to all low-ceiling bathroom sprinklers to prevent accidental activation and costly water damage."
