  • Let me preface these discoveries by saying that I ended up in Calella haphazardly. It is not necessarily a town that I would generally recommend. It is not your traditional Spanish/Catalan dream destination. It very much looks like something the 70's spit out and no one ever bothered to clean up. With that said, I freaking love this little freakish town, which I quickly & affectionately nicknamed "The Twilight Zone." The strangest occurrences happened throughout the month, yes MONTH, I lived in Calella. Apparently since the 70's, Calella, was a booming tourist destination for Western Europeans and the British. It has been on a massive decline over the past decade. What's left behind though are some fun Dutch and English/Irish pubs, a small welcoming expat community, and one of the most incredible beaches you will ever lay your eyes on. Beautiful clean white sand for miles and crystal clear turquoise water. Parties & bars on the beach, some free concerts in the summer time and of course drinking it allowed as well. If you happen to find yourself here, you must stop in at Beach Boys Club, tell the owners, Brian & Cathy, that Amber sent you. Then hit up Brian for his secret stash of American imported Budweiser (Did you know the bottled stuff is always produced in country? Brian believes the secrets in the water, so he gets the cans from the US. Brian is British, which makes this little story even better.) Also, be prepared to eat a lot of rotisserie chicken.

Amazing hotel!

We had a fantastic stay at the Bernat - the food was fresh and a good variety, the whole hotel was spotless, the pool was great and the location was excellent, near to both the beach and town!

We had an amazing holiday, the staff is friendly, nice food, we would definitely come back ,there is just few areas that may need some improvement like renovations as our room had few broken tiles .

Beautiful hotel, clean and tidy. Welcoming and accommodating staff and always happy to help. Really good selection of food each day at the buffets. Only thing, the childrens entertainment (mini disco) started a little later than we had anticipated (21.30). However the ladies who ran the mini club from 17.30 were amazing, super friendly and my daughter (4yrs) loved them. I would highly recommend this hotel, as it was perfecf for our first time abroad with our little one. The beach was about 5 minutes walk from the hotel and the town centre about a 10 minute walk. Good location

Stand-out staff.

Receptionist Montse was a diamond when checking in, she also rescued me from the balcony when I managed to lock myself out. She is very kind and helpful, always smiling. Unfortunately the wifi did not work in the room due to power outages (city wide! Not hotels fault) and the wifi range extender was broken on second floor. The night receptionist mocked/questioned me slightly for asking for an extra blanket. The pool area has been renovated and does not reflect in the pictures, I would argue the layout has improved however the grout and paint is chipping loose and floating in the pool water. Breakfast was lovely. Had two great nights sleep, amenities in the room worked well.

This was our second stay at Hotel Bernatt 11. It is a lovely hotel that is close to the beach and a short walk to Calella town. It is always clean and tidy and the staff show pride in their work. Food was lovely as always. The pool has been updated this past year - looks really nice with the additional paddling space for little children. The materials used in the revamp are coming away, so it seems that it will need to be redone again soon.

They advertise they have AC. Technically correct but AC is throttled to the point where you effectively don't have AC in your room. Unable to sleep with the heat we had.

The total is at proximity walking distance to the beach. The total is outdated, very small rooms, area around isn’t the best and noisy. The pool is very small, not as advertised. The full board is very limited of choices. The rooms service staff and Montse up front are very nice.

Great hotel, but noice reduction measures needed.

Nice hotel with in overall serviceminded personell. Nice breakfast, boring dinner. Horrible resonans in restaurant forces guests talking loud(er and louder), making meals an ear/brain torture. Tried to eat on outside part, but most times one particular waitress forced us inside again. This is the only negative experience, otherwise we loved our stay.

I had a renovated room and it was generally okay. My only problem and inconvenience was that the drinks were not included as I had ordered. Additionally, when I asked for ice, I was told that 4 cubes cost 1 €. At this hotel, everything is charged extra, so consider having some extra money for anything, including the in-room safe, which is also at an additional cost.

Full of convenience, great buffet, relaxing spa

We had a lovely two-night stay at the beginning of July. The room was nicely decorated, great beds, nice balcony, practical clothes line, fab shower. Really good storage, mini fridge and 2 complimentary water bottles. As a family of four, 4 would have been nice, and a little more space in the room at the foot of the beds too. The pool area is great, not too crowded. Free beach towels available. There are fun games next to the bar, lovely lounging area. Spa is really relaxing - we had it to ourselves! Extra cost to enter but worth it. Buffet was fantastic but drinks aren't included in lunch or dinner option. Friendly staff and activities for kids as well as evening activities for all. Close to the beach and lots of bars and restaurants. Bahari Club is a luxury but highly recommended! The nicest hotel in the area, clever design. You don't go to Calella for the town - it lacks any charm - but for a relaxing hotel experience with the beach 5 minutes away, this is a great option. Great value for money. I was treated to a massage as well, highly recommended (though not great if the spa is busy as the noise comes through a bit).
