The COVID-19 outbreak may have changed the way we travel, but it hasn't stopped our lust for exploring. Here are a few tips on how to cope with travel's new challenges:

• Understand what, if any, restrictions or rules apply to both your destination and origin. It may not be possible to travel depending on local circumstances, so don't forget to check government advisories before booking.
• Keep your face mask on even during airport screening. A TSA employee will ask you to temporarily lower your mask to verify your identity.
• To reduce the possibility of cross-contamination, position your boarding pass on the scanner yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your boarding pass directly to a TSA officer.
• TSA is now allowing passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on luggage. This will have to be removed from your bag and submitted for screening.
• Empty everything from your pockets, like your wallet, phone and small change, and place them in your carry-on rather than the bins. This will reduce handling during screening.
• Separate any food you have for screening. Food items often set off the alarm. Placing them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA employee to handle and inspect your belongings.
