"It’s a shame. Such a beautiful, classic building and the Britannia group skimping on the most basic things, and milking the nostalgic place for every penny they can get before moving on. Sea view room was worthless with the months of not years of grime and dirt on the windows. Carpets that may never have known true modern amenities such as vacuum cleaners… just so sad. "

"We upgraded from our initial shoebox room, which were surprised to have been allocated, as we had our dog with us and there was no room even for his basket! Our upgraded, sea view room was excellent. Good to have a hotel that supplies hair conditioner aswell as shampoo as most only supply a shampoo that strips the hair of all moisture. Good sized mugs, but flimsy plastic cups for the bathroom were disappointing. All staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Very limited, seemingly unmarshalled car park in the street behind the hotel. Could be a problem parking from spring to autumn. "

"Amazingly equipped kitchen. Everything spotless. Cosy beds. Lashings of hot water. The place was lovely and pleasantly warm, the the interiors were a delight."

"Tired and in need of care and refurbishment. Parking limited and not easy access. Room showing signs of damp in bathroom. Entry door damaged and needed repair to gain access. Plus side hot water supply very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Disappointed after good cooked breakfast at the weekend Monday morning continental breakfast, which consisted of dry, stale mini croissants and pain au chocolat, no chese or cold meats(available at the weekend) and hot drinks machine not working. "

"The hotel and room we stayed in overall was good, but on the 2 days we were there the bar staff and lady who booked us in at reception appeared miserable and lacked any personality. They all looked fed up as if they didn’t want to be there. Everything they did appeared to be an effort. Nobody was willing to have a friendly chat and pass the time of day, even though they were pretty quiet. The breakfast was nice, but for coffee they only had whole milk available which I really dislike. When I kindly enquired if they had skimmed or semi skimmed at all. the lady said no and just walked off. In my opinion, the staff working there, seriously do need to improve on their personality and interaction with guests. I appreciate that their job can be demanding at times but a little smile and a general chat would make such a difference to guests and make them feel happier staying there. We paid a lot of money to stay there, and I believe that a friendly face and a smile by staff would make the experience of staying at Mayfield so much better. "
