  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Really loved the style of the rooms and of the hotel itself. It is in a great location for everything in the city. Easy walking and wonderful views of the buildings. The breakfast in the “vault” which was right next to the canal, was very good with great atmosphere.

Absolutely gorgeous little hotel! Right next to the canal, very homey and unique decor. Loved the wooden beams on the roof and throughout the building. Very quaint and quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff, very clean, and has all the facilities you would need for a nice stay. Even got a little parting gift of some delicious cookies! Cannot recommend enough, we'll definitely be back :)

Hotel Ter Brughe was the PERFECT place to stay in Bruges to escape the madness in the world! Quiet but within walking distance to restaurants, museums, shops. The staff was so friendly and so accommodating, making the stay all that much nicer. I highly recommend Hotel Ter Brughe!!

My wife and I spent a quick night here on our way from Paris to Amsterdam, and we both wished we could have stayed longer. We decided to walk from the train station and it was a very manageable 25 minute walk right through the heart of Bruges. The location is just outside of the city center, so it made it very convenient to get to shopping and dining, but felt so quiet and quaint. Very cool old hotel with lots of history and we absolutely loved it. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive and the bar and breakfast were outstanding. Highly recommend!

I’m 69 and fell when I arrived - my fault - they reacted as a triage team / very concerned and checked on me every day. The location was awesome and would go back in a heartbeat! Fun courtyard for drinks and happy hour on property.

Picturesque and charming hotel, good location

It’s a beautiful location right off the canal and they have an interior garden - you can order drinks from the hotel bar and enjoy them in the garden. Lastly, the breakfast is amazing and varies daily!
