  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Very happy and helpful staff. Excellent location. The hotel is very close to the centre without being noisy or disruptive. We also had a view of the canal from our room which was a nice touch. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Would stay again if we are in Bruges, and would recommend to others.

Lovely hotel in a location local to the centre (about a 6min walk). The hotel has as lovely ambience & Steve & his team looked after us really well. Steve was readily available to give advice & directions & even booked restaurants for us with it being a busy Xmas period. While the room are small they have everything you need including a safe & a fridge. The shower was good with plenty of hot water & breakfast albeit continental gave us a great start to the day. Would definitely book again.

Lovely vintage hotel near centre of Bruges. Helpful staff. Carpets showing their age. We had a jolt in the middle of the night when the mirror fell off the wall. Gave us quite a shock at 4am!

Very nice family run hotel. We really enjoyed our 4 night stay. Our room had a canal view, it was only a 5 minute walk to the market square. The staff were friendly and helpful.
