Great Position
When using hotels in China ALWAYS take the address written in CHINESE and the hotel telephone number to give to the taxi driver.
Facebook and Google (and its Apps) DO NOT work (properly). Download Baidu instead. WeChat and WhatsApp are also helpful.
Take a Translator App with you (but not the Google one!)- many Chinese have their own phone App to help you translate.
The Great Hall hotel is conveniently situated for The Great Hall of the People, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden Palace, Museum, Metro, shopping and Hulongs. However, the Chinese like to make you walk the long way round so your bags can be checked. What should have been a 250m walk to the square was, in fact, 1Km - get used to it!
Few people speak English but Reception was helpful in their advice and directions. The room was comfortable and clean, with a safe and a lovely powerful shower.
The breakfast was good, mainly Chinese but with eggs, bacon, coffee, tea, toast available. Hot and cold.
