Christina was a lovely host! We felt very welcomed and comfortable. The dog loved the back garden and we enjoyed the pub next door. Thank you for a wonderful weekend!
My husband and I stayed here recently while visiting a friend who lives just a short walk away, and it was absolutely perfect for what we needed! The bed was a little more firm that we are used to, but that seems to be a common thing we encountered with UK beds, in general and is not a complaint about this establishment in any way. The owner was very helpful and pleasant, and we would definitely consider staying here again for future visits!
Very friendly and helpful host, Christina, especially when I locked myself out of the room! Clean, and well maintained house.
Bed was a bit uncomfortable, but think that was probably due to a previous guest who broke one of the support slats!
Could have done with a couple more electrical sockets by the bed, as only 2 in the room. Overall though excellent value for money 👍
Stayed here for 2 nights.
I have to say the room was very cold with the host putting the heating on only when she was home. On day one there was no hearing in the room on arrival and on day 2 the room was cold until the host arrived home after 7pm and turned the heating on for a few hours. The blessing was I took a hot water bottle.
Shower etc was fine and bed ok.
As the property was called "Mallard Cottage" and there were pictures of a lake I had visions of a little cottage by a lake. What transpired was a room in a house on a busy road opposite a lake. The room had nothing but a bed and chests of drawers for furniture. There was a kettle but no tv. The bathroom was down the hall and was shared with, it seems, four other rooms! I was shown a fridge in the kitchen where there was milk for tea making purposes. It was not made clear whether I could use the kitchen for other purposes. The stairs to my, and other, rooms were very steep, narrow, and winding and I would doubt it would pass health and safety regulations. None of the bedroom doors were fire proof and there was no other fire exit from the room. Our double bed was against one wall meaning that we, in our seventies, had to clamber over each other to get up in the night. There is a pub next door that has live music events. It was very loud and did not finish until 11pm. The road is between two roundabouts and was very busy and noisy most of the night.
It was ok but room very small. Also there were a distinct lack of sockets. A double outlet near the head of the bed, one used for a basic light and the other free but was near the side of the bed against the wall. The kettle was not possible to plug on the unit. It would have to be placed on the small the space between the bed and unit or on the bed to be plugged into the second outlet near the foot of the bed. Not ideal so i didn't bother the make a drink as i thought it a bit unsafe. The floorboards outside the room creaked like mad so was noisy when anyone came in and walked past the door. It was impossible to turn the radiator down as the thermostatic valve top was missing so was hot in the room. Im not sure if it said lake view but you definitely couldn't see the lake from the room i was in. Pub next door was great though and had an Indian restaurant in it too. The landlady was friendly and helpful. Only small and easily sorted gripes but there it is.
I booked a room for a couple of my contractors in this established. They reported that it was simply a house with rooms being let out. Doors were really thin and they could hear other residents, including the landlady who was ill and coughing all night. Not a good look with COVID-19!!!
Welcoming host. Would have been nice to have a lock on bedroom door so others could not enter when I was out. Room needs a deep clean as cobwebs in each corner & loft hatch, many bugs. Stains to front of drawers & 'crumbs' in drawers. A lot of dust on skirting boards. No TV.
